Job Title: Phlebotomist Brooklyn Job Description
This phlebotomist role in Brooklyn focuses on high-volume specimen collection and processing in a fast-paced patient service center. The position requires at least two years of recent professional phlebotomy experience, strong venipuncture skills with straight needles, and the ability to communicate clearly and courteously with patients. You will play a key role in ensuring accurate blood draws, specimen handling, and documentation while maintaining a reliable and punctual presence on a small, collaborative team.
Responsibilities
- Perform blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Explain venipuncture and other specimen collection procedures (such as urine or fecal collection) clearly and courteously to patients.
- Collect and store specimens according to established procedures and protocol.
- Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify all test requisitions or computer labels against scripts to ensure 100% accuracy.
- Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by specific test orders.
- Package specimens for transport, following outlined procedures to maintain specimen integrity.
- Store specimen samples at required temperatures and place samples in appropriate collection containers or tubes.
- Accurately label specimens and follow different procedures as required by specific protocols for transport.
- Record maintenance data and perform decontamination tasks as needed to support a clean and safe work area.
- Update patient information accurately in the system and maintain organized documentation.
- Provide professional, patient-focused care throughout the specimen collection process.
- Work efficiently in a fast-paced lab or hospital-style environment while performing a high volume of daily blood draws.
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 2 years of recent professional phlebotomy experience performing venipunctures in a fast-paced lab or hospital setting.
- Proficiency in venipuncture using straight needles and butterfly needles.
- Strong skills in specimen collection, blood draws, and handling of various specimen types.
- Ability to accurately match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes and verify test orders.
- Competence in labeling, centrifuging, splitting, and freezing specimens according to test requirements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for basic documentation and data entry.
- Reliable and punctual work habits with strong attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills for interacting with patients and team members in a clear and courteous manner.
- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Experience working in a patient service center, clinical laboratory, or hospital environment.
- Demonstrated ability to manage 3050 blood draws per day while maintaining accuracy and patient care standards.
- Comfort working in a small, two-person site where collaboration and flexibility are important.

- Ability to maintain a clean, organized workspace and follow decontamination procedures as required.
Work Environment
This role is based in a newly opened patient service center in Brooklyn, operating as a two-person site with a high volume of 3050 blood draws per day. You will work with standard phlebotomy equipment, including straight needles, butterfly needles, centrifuges, and specimen storage systems, and use computer systems and Microsoft Office Suite for data entry and documentation. The schedule is Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with every other Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at a Brooklyn location. The environment is fast-paced and patient-focused, requiring consistent professionalism, accuracy, and adherence to established laboratory and specimen transport protocols.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Brooklyn, NY.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $23.00 - $23.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
