Overall Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Lead the development, review, and implementation of Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering deliverables for customer projects and operating facilities.
- Prepare and maintain I&C engineering documentation including: Control Narratives.
- Functional Design Specifications (FDS).
- Cause-and-Effect Matrices.
- Instrument Indexes.
- I/O Lists.
- PLC and DCS Logic Diagrams.
- Loop Drawings.
- Alarm Philosophy and Rationalization Documentation.
- Test Procedures.
- Commissioning and Startup Packages.
- Support and maintain plant control systems, DCS platforms, Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), HMI/SCADA applications, and associated industrial networks.
- Execute control strategy modifications, logic changes, graphics development, and system troubleshooting.
- Work directly with customer operations and engineering personnel to identify and resolve process control issues.
- Review and interpret existing control programs and documentation.
- Participate in control system upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management activities.
- Provide technical support for reliability, safety, and production objectives.
- Support commissioning, startup, testing, and troubleshooting activities.
- Collaborate with automation, instrumentation, operations, and maintenance teams to improve system and process performance.
- Interface with equipment vendors, system integrators, and customer stakeholders.
- Independently prioritize and execute assigned work with limited direction.
- Travel up to 25% as required to support customer projects, commissioning activities, troubleshooting, and business needs throughout North America.
- Travel as required for various field programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation, Computer, Process Control, or related Engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation or eligibility is preferred.
- Minimum 10+ years of industrial controls and automation experience.
- Demonstrated experience supporting industrial facilities and customer projects.
- Proven experience developing, reviewing, and executing Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering deliverables is required.
- Candidates must demonstrate hands-on experience producing control narratives, functional design specifications, cause-and-effect matrices, instrument indexes, I/O lists, logic diagrams, loop drawings, alarm management documentation, test procedures, and commissioning documentation.
- Strong understanding of process control principles, alarms, interlocks, regulatory control strategies, and safety systems.
- Experience working directly with operators, maintenance personnel, and engineering teams.
- Proven ability to work independently and quickly become productive in unfamiliar environments.

Desired Experience
- Experience supporting customers in industrial process, manufacturing, energy, mining, refining, petrochemical, pipeline, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.
- Experience with DCS migrations, upgrades, and modernization projects.
- Experience supporting both regulatory and advanced process control applications.
- Brownfield modifications and operational support.
- Functional safety and alarm management knowledge.
- Knowledge of integrated plant operations and production optimization.
- Experience supporting multi-discipline engineering projects through design, implementation, commissioning, and startup phases.
- Experience working within an Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) environment is considered a strong asset.

- 10-20+ years of controls and automation engineering experience.
- Demonstrated success delivering both project and operational support assignments.
- Strong background in the development of I&C engineering deliverables and control system design.
- Experience supporting the full project lifecycle including design, implementation, testing, commissioning, startup, and ongoing customer support.
- Proven ability to independently lead controls engineering activities and provide technical guidance to customers and project teams.
