Application Engineering Intern – Mechanical Engineering
Critical Systems, LLC is seeking a motivated Mechanical Engineering Intern to join our Application Engineering team. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience supporting the design, development, and application of mechanical systems used in data centers, healthcare facilities, laboratories, and other critical infrastructure environments.
The ideal candidate is a current Mechanical Engineering student who is interested in applying classroom knowledge to real-world engineering projects and learning how mechanical systems are selected, designed, specified, and integrated into complex building environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Application Engineers with the selection and application of mechanical and HVAC equipment and systems.
- Support engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and technical evaluations.
- Review mechanical drawings, specifications, submittals, and equipment documentation.
- Assist with preparing equipment selections, proposals, schedules, and technical documentation.
- Research equipment, manufacturers, and applicable technical requirements.
- Support engineers in evaluating project requirements and developing appropriate technical solutions.
- Assist with CAD drawings, system layouts, and other engineering documentation as needed.
- Participate in project meetings and gain exposure to the coordination of mechanical systems with other building disciplines.
- Learn how mechanical systems are applied in mission-critical environments where reliability, efficiency, and performance are essential.
- Perform other engineering-related tasks and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
- Strong interest in HVAC, building systems, mechanical equipment, or engineering applications.
- Basic understanding of engineering principles, thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, and heat transfer.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to read and understand basic engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Strong communication skills and willingness to learn.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
