We're seeking a Maintenance Planner Power Production to join our Power Generation team and oversee maintenance planning and coordination for our gas pipeline operations supporting thermal assets. You'll keep everything running smoothly by creating work plans, schedules, and work packages for all maintenance activities and making sure materials, permits, and documentation are ready when needed.

Purpose

Plan, organize and execute maintenance planning and outage coordination activities for Power Generation assets. Develop and implement integrated maintenance plans and work packages contributing to safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operations. Improve, continuously, work management processes to enhance asset performance and operational efficiency. Document preventive and corrective maintenance, modifications or additions, and inspection and testing for power generation assets to ensure a technically sound and cost-effective maintenance program that provides high work force productivity, work quality and minimal SMUD asset outage.

Nature and Scope

Serve as an advanced journey-level resource utilizing advanced decision-making, discretion, and technical expertise. Plan, coordinate, and prioritize work management, outage activities, and operational tasks balancing operational priorities, maintenance requirements, regulatory compliance and resource availability to ensure safe, reliability and efficient operations. Works on one’s own on projects of moderate complexity. May lead or supervise, overseeing efforts across multiple work groups, assessing work outcomes, and providing guidance and training.

Duties and Responsibilities

- Lead the development, coordination, and maintenance of preventive, predictive, corrective, and outage maintenance plans for assigned Power Generation assets, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.

- Create integrated work plans, work packages, and maintenance schedules to support safe, reliable, compliant, and cost-effective operation of Power Generation assets, with a focus on ensuring operational readiness and excellence.

- Manage and coordinate weekly maintenance schedules and work activities to optimize inspections, maintenance tasks, regulatory compliance, and meet operational priorities across the plant.

- Lead and facilitate maintenance planning to verify all required materials, equipment, permits, operating clearances, contractor support, and documentation are available, guaranteeing operational readiness for scheduled work.

- Ensure a consistent approach to planning, authorizing and executing maintenance work for Power Generation assets by utilizing SMUD’s Work Management program.

- Prepare and issue comprehensive work packages and technical documentation for planned maintenance, modifications, and additions.

- Coordinate plant and equipment outages, resources, and schedules to facilitate safe, timely, and efficient maintenance activities.

- Develop and provide detailed work instructions tailored to defined work scopes and operational requirements.

- Administer assigned maintenance and service contracts by developing task authorizations, coordinating contractor activities, monitoring contract performance, and tracking expenditures to ensure compliance and value.

- Oversee scheduled maintenance outages for Power Generation assets, collaborating with Engineering, Maintenance, Supply Chain, contractors, and stakeholders to maximize resource efficiency and minimize operational disruptions.

- Develop, maintain, and continuously improve maintenance planning and outage management processes, including asset documentation, plant clearances, work prioritization, and communication with stakeholders, to support reliable operations, regulatory compliance, and minimal downtime.

- Ensure accurate up-to-date SMUD records that reflect detailed completed maintenance in compliance with SMUD policies and develop and maintain corrective work history documentation for all preventive maintenance and plant modifications/additions.

- Drive cross-functional collaboration with Operations, Engineering, Environmental, Regulatory Compliance, Supply Chain, Finance, and other business units to resolve planning issues and facilitate successful maintenance activities.

- May serve in a lead role, providing work direction, training, and oversight of daily activities.

- Collaborate with Asset Managers to develop annual business plans, maintenance strategies, capital improvement programs, asset lifecycle planning, regulatory compliance activities, and financial analysis by leading planning, work management, budgeting, and analytical efforts.

- Prepare and deliver reports, performance metrics, schedules, forecasts, and planning documentation that drive operational decisions, regulatory compliance, budget planning, and management review.

- Coordinate development, forecasting, reconciliation, and reporting of maintenance operating and capital budgets, work authorizations, project expenditures, and financial performance in partnership with Asset Management, Operations, Finance, and Project Management to support effective stewardship of Power Generation assets.

- Performs other related duties as needed; schedules, hours and locations may fluctuate based on business needs.

Required Education

- High school diploma or equivalent required.

Required Experience Qualifications

- Five plus (5+) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance planning, work management, outage coordination, project coordination, or maintenance execution within electric utilities, power generation facilities, natural gas pipeline operations, or comparable industrial environments.

Knowledge Of

- Fundamentals, practices, and methods of maintenance planning, work management, outage coordination, and maintenance scheduling.

- Maintenance strategies, including preventive, predictive, corrective, and condition-based maintenance.

- Operation and maintenance practices associated with thermal generation facilities, natural gas pipeline systems, renewable generation assets, and supporting infrastructure.

- Planning, coordination, and execution of maintenance outages, including operational readiness, resource planning, contractor coordination, and work package development.

- Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) and computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), including work order management, equipment history, and maintenance documentation.

- Budget development, cost tracking, contract administration, and maintenance-related financial management practices.

- Applicable regulatory requirements, environmental compliance obligations, and industry standards affecting power generation and gas pipeline operations.

- Project coordination techniques, scheduling methodologies, resource planning, and workload prioritization.

- Fundamentals of continuous improvement, process optimization, and performance measurement.

Desirable Qualifications

- Experience with maintenance planning and outage coordination, including developing work schedules and supporting outage activities.

- Proficiency in SAP Plant Maintenance (PM), including creating and managing work orders, maintenance plans, task lists, and equipment records.

- Strong understanding of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance strategies

- Proven ability to develop integrated work packages and detailed maintenance schedules

- Knowledge of regulatory requirements related to power generation and gas pipeline safety

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for coordinating cross-functional teams and contractors
