About this role
Tesla Energy is looking for a Sr. Embedded Linux engineer to join the Energy Device Core Software team responsible for Tesla’s Energy and Charging system controllers. We are looking for highly motivated engineers with experience in embedded Linux board bring up, system software, and complex system architectures to help bring the next generation of energy products to the market. You will lead end-to-end hardware bring up projects, from first power on to start of production; porting bootloaders, Linux kernels, and system software on to new hardware designs. You will join a talented team of system software developers, board support engineers, and integration engineers that are at the core of all energy products.
End-to-end board bring up of new embedded Linux hardware platforms, bootloader development, and kernel driver porting for various hardware peripherals Enable hardware peripherals, define test plans, and validate new hardware designs in collaboration with LV EE teams Maintain BSPs for energy products, updating bootloaders, Linux kernels, and buildroot software Deliver high-quality scalable system software supporting various hardware peripherals Define new hardware requirements and architectures to drive new product development Review hardware and system architectures, PCBA schematics, and provide feedback to ensure high-quality products reach our customers Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as hardware, application engineering, QA, validation and manufacturing
3-5 years’ experience building, debugging, and shipping embedded Linux OS distributions on ARM Cortex-A (or similar) platforms Experience developing system software on embedded Linux for connectivity telemetry and OTA update management Expert in debugging hardware/software issues on embedded platforms Proficient in C for bootloader/kernel development, experience in Go, Rust, C++ preferred Experience reading PCBA and system level schematics, providing feedback, and validating circuits Skilled in reviewing datasheets and integrating necessary software features to support new hardware integration Experience in embedded protocols such as CAN, RS-485, Ethernet, PCIe, SPI, I2C Familiarity with embedded Linux security fundamentals such as secure boot, PKI, hardware key storage

Expected Compensation $120,000 - $300,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
