Job Description

Position Summary:

Develops, codes, tests, and debugs new software or enhancements to existing software in support of a national-scale artificial intelligence testbed. Typically works with senior staff but may coordinate smaller or less complex projects independently. Designs and implements technical solutions that ensure project needs and requirements are met and performs system integration tasks. Provides estimation for assigned tasks.

Essential Job Duties:

- Develop software for managing a distributed network of computing nodes.

- Develop new features for AI-enabled data analysis and autonomous control at the edge.

- Develop and maintain software infrastructure through patches, bundles, releases, and maintenance packs.

- Code software applications that adhere to established designs and support internal requirements and external users; create and maintain code documentation.

- Identify database and software performance issues and adjust; support debugging and troubleshooting.

- Insure the correct operation of the distributed infrastructure.

- Prioritize tasks within a project and meet with business analysts and stakeholders to determine requirements.

- Open and manage support tickets with vendors; grant access to new users and respond to user inquiries; collaborate with users to design features for developing new goals, strategies, workflow and best practices.

Conditions of Employment:

- Valid driver's license by employment start date.

- Authorized to work in the United States by employment start date.

- Ability to travel between Northwestern University and Argonne National Laboratory is required.

Decision Making:

- Evaluate feature, upgrade, and change requests and recommend the appropriate course of action.

- Prioritize tasks within assigned projects to meet requirements and deadlines.

- Identify software performance issues and determine the adjustments needed to resolve them.

- Partner with users to design features and recommend workflow and best practice improvements.

- Determine when to escalate issues to senior staff or open tickets with external vendors.

Supervision: N/A

Minimum Qualifications:

- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or a related field.
- One year of experience developing and maintaining code or services in production.
- Fluency in:

- Programming language such as Python, C, and shell scripts.

- General developer tooling such as Git and Docker.

- Linux.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Kubernetes.
- Monitoring tooling such as Prometheus.
- CI/CD tooling such as GitHub Actions.

# Salary Range
$62,400 to $83,200
