The Floating Patient Access Representative serves as the primary point of contact for patients and customers, providing exceptional service and support throughout the healthcare experience. This float position offers the opportunity to work across multiple clinic and lab locations, delivering consistent, high-quality patient access services wherever coverage is needed. The role is ideal for an adaptable, customer-focused professional who is comfortable working in a variety of patient service environments and enjoys a dynamic, travel-based schedule.
Responsibilities
- Travel regularly between Fort Wayne, Auburn, Columbia City, and Huntington locations to provide coverage based on business needs and staffing demands.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, healthcare providers, and internal departments to ensure clear communication and a seamless patient experience.
- Respond to patient and customer inquiries via phone, email, and other communication channels in a timely and professional manner.
- Deliver courteous, professional, and accurate customer service at all times, both in person and remotely.
- Gather, verify, and update patient demographic and insurance information with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Educate patients on available services, procedures, and next steps, helping them understand the healthcare process and what to expect.
- Research and resolve patient and customer concerns using multiple computer systems and databases.
- Communicate test results, appointment details, and service updates according to established procedures and privacy guidelines.
- Review patient documentation for accuracy and completeness, and promptly escalate any discrepancies or issues identified.
- Maintain patient records and documentation in compliance with HIPAA regulations and organizational standards.
- Support administrative and record-management functions at multiple locations, including data entry, registration, and general front office tasks as assigned.
- Collaborate with clinical and administrative staff to support efficient patient flow and high-quality service across all covered locations.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience working in a medical office or healthcare setting.
- High school diploma or equivalent education.
- Face-to-face customer service or reception experience in a fast-paced environment.
- Reliable transportation and ability to travel regularly between Fort Wayne, Auburn, Columbia City, and Huntington.
- Flexibility to work varying shifts between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM based on coverage needs.
- Strong data entry skills with the ability to accurately input and update patient information.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology and patient access processes.
- Ability to use multiple computer systems and databases to research information and resolve customer concerns.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patients, providers, and internal staff.
- Demonstrated ability to deliver professional, courteous, and accurate customer service.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to review documentation for accuracy and completeness.
- Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and adhering to HIPAA and organizational standards.

- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to research and resolve patient concerns using available systems and resources.

Work Environment
This role is fully onsite at various lab and clinic locations, providing coverage across Fort Wayne, Auburn, Columbia City, and Huntington. The schedule is Monday through Friday with shifts that may vary between 6:00 AM and 7:00 PM depending on where coverage is needed, offering a dynamic workday that changes with business demands. The environment is a professional healthcare and laboratory setting, involving regular interaction with patients, clinical staff, and administrative teams. Work is primarily performed at front desks, registration areas, and patient service centers using computers, phones, and other standard office equipment. The role requires reliable transportation for frequent travel between sites and a professional appearance appropriate for a medical and lab services environment. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Fort Wayne, IN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
