Position Summary:

BC Wire Rope is seeking a skilled Machinist to support our shop operations by producing, modifying, and repairing metal parts and components used in industrial equipment and rigging applications. The ideal candidate has experience operating machine tools, interpreting technical drawings, and maintaining precise tolerances while working safely and efficiently.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

- Setup and operate manual lathes, milling machines, drill presses, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
- Machine parts to specifications using blueprints, engineering drawings, sketches, and work orders.
- Determine appropriate tooling, fixtures, cutting speeds, feeds, and machining sequences.
- Measure and inspect finished parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, and other precision instruments.
- Perform turning, milling, drilling, boring, threading, and other machining operations as assigned.
- Manufacture or repair shafts, bushings, pins, sleeves, and other components according to approved specifications.
- Inspect materials and work in progress to identify defects, dimensional discrepancies, and needed corrections.
- Collaborate with shop personnel and supervisors to prioritize work and resolve machining issues.
- Perform routine machine cleaning, lubrication, and preventive maintenance; report equipment concerns promptly.
- Maintain accurate records of completed work, material usage, and inspection results.
- Support general shop activities, including material handling and organizing tooling and supplies.
- Follow established safety procedures, including machine guarding, lockout/tagout, and required personal protective equipment.
- Operate forklifts and overhead lifting equipment only when trained and authorized.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area and contribute to continuous improvements in quality and productivity.

Required Skills/Abilities

- Strong understanding of materials used in lifting and rigging applications and their respective properties.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulations related to lifting and rigging.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Education and Experience

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two years of machining experience preferred; an equivalent combination of technical training and hands-on experience will be considered.
- Ability to set up and operate manual machine tools independently.
- Proficiency in reading technical drawings and interpreting dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.
- Experience using precision measuring instruments to verify part quality.
- Understanding of machining practices, cutting tools, and common metals.
- Strong mechanical aptitude, shop math skills, and attention to detail.
- Ability to troubleshoot machining problems and manage multiple work assignments.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

- Work is performed primarily in an industrial shop with exposure to machinery, noise, metal shavings, and machining fluids.
- Duties involve standing for extended periods, bending, reaching, and handling tools and components.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Use appropriate lifting equipment or team assistance when moving heavy materials.

Work Environment

This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. This would be located in a shop/warehouse environment. Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
