JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking an Optician under close supervision, assist patients with selection, ordering and delivery of appropriate eyewear/vision aids and provide support related to adjustment, repair and replacement.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze and interpret prescriptions.
- Educate and advise patients of available frame styles, lens designs, materials and coatings.
- Perform major and minor repairs of eyewear when necessary.
- Conduct instruction sessions for teaching insertion, removal, and care of disposable and specialty /custom contacts.
- Maintain, clean, and repair optical equipment as necessary.
- Dispense eyewear to patients, verify proper fit, expected vision, order accuracy, and conduct bench adjustments as necessary for comfortable eyewear.
- Advise patients on insurance coverage, promotions.
- Complete customer billing/service records.
- Inspect and verify eyewear is within ANSI standards.
- Review, update and develop optical policies and procedures as requested.
- Constantly monitor pricing structure, and when appropriate, renegotiate vendor contacts and adjust to maximize profit margins.
- Partner with clinic staff, to review and revise best business practices to maintain a high level of patient satisfaction.
- Monitor inventory budget and manage the purchase of all optical inventory, equipment, and supplies.
- Partner with leadership and marketing to develop strategies for marketing optical products and eyewear.
- Balance ledgers and reconcile financial transactions and deposit within the department daily.
- Attend and actively participate in staff meetings to maintain and improve technical skills and service levels for patients.
- Ensure patient’s visual and auditory privacy and maintain patient confidentiality at all times. Ensure HIPAA compliance standards are met.
- Interact with staff and co-workers in a manner that promotes positive working relationships.
- Meet all required competencies and maintain skill level.
- Complete required Annual Review and Safety, Compliance, and Infection Control trainings.
- Flexibility to travel to various optical locations as needed.
- Participate in the orientation, and training process of staff.
- Assist in scheduling staff as needed. Provide input of day to day operations for decision making process.
JOB ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
- Work requires one year of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Work requries completion of High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must have licensure by North Carolina State Board of Opticians.
- Requires excellent blend of communication skills, sales experience, empathy, and customer service.
- Must be able to express a caring attitude while performing tasks required with accuracy and proficiency.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to stand in one position for an extended amount of time.
JOB HOURS
The schedule for this position is day shifts, Monday-Friday, with no weekends or holidays.
