The Senior Accounting Manager will lead core accounting activities to help maintain accurate timely financial reporting for United Church Homes and Affiliates. This role will oversee key close processes, strengthen balance sheet integrity and support day-to-day accounting operations with a strong command of reconciliations and ledger management while utilizing IT and AI in accordance with organization policy and direction. The ideal candidate brings a hands-on approach, sound technical accounting knowledge, and the ability to improve consistency across essential financial workflows.
Essential Functions Statement(s):

- Lead full monthly close, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial reporting.
- Build and enhance accounting systems, reporting tools, and infrastructure.
- Establish controls, policies, and audit-ready procedures to support growth.
- Streamline AP/AR processes and assist with cash flow management.
- Deliver timely financial reports for senior management and board members.
- Partner with operations and cross-functional teams to ensure financial accuracy.
- Establish transition accounting for projects from the Development Team to Accounting.  This includes cost certifications, audits, etc.
- Oversee tax compliance (990, 1120 and Unrelated Business Income UBI) and coordinate with external advisors.
- Manage audit preparation and external auditor relationships.
- Recruit, mentor, and lead the accounting team.
- Oversee annual Medicare and Medicaid cost reports.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (four-year college or technical school) Required, Field of Study: Accounting or Finance

Master's Degree Preferred, Field of Study: Business Administration or related Finance field

CPA strongly preferred

Experience:

Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience with at least 3 years in healthcare financial management and accounting required. Public accounting experience preferred. Broader Long Term Care experience preferred. Experience supporting Audits and compliance requirements. Proven ability to build processes in evolving environments.

Valid driver’s license required; must meet company vehicle insurance and driving record standards.
