The Lifestyle and Wellness Coordinator is responsible for planning, developing, coordinating, and executing lifestyle, wellness, aquatics, and hospitality programming for Opus Select, a 62+ luxury apartment community. This role fosters an engaging community culture that promotes active aging, social connection, lifelong learning, and overall well-being.
The Coordinator partners with Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay to expand programming, coordinate shared excursions, and leverage campus resources to enhance the resident experience. The role also oversees the communitys outdoor saltwater pool and aquatics program, including regulatory compliance, required City of Virginia Beach certifications and licensing, and coordination with the pool vendor.
Additionally, the Coordinator manages the weekday continental breakfast program, including procurement, setup, service, inventory, cost control, and presentation. The Lifestyle and Wellness Coordinator models WCCBs core values of respect, passion, and professionalism while fostering meaningful resident engagement and effective cross-departmental collaboration.
What You'll Do In This Role
Lifestyle & Wellness Programming
- Develop, coordinate, and implement a comprehensive monthly calendar of lifestyle, wellness, social, cultural, educational, and recreational programs.
- Assess resident interests and needs through surveys, meetings, and ongoing engagement to ensure programs are relevant and inclusive.
- Coordinate group fitness classes, wellness workshops, special events, excursions, and enrichment activities.
- Build collaborative programming partnerships with the main Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay campus.
- Coordinate with instructors, entertainers, volunteers, and third-party vendors to deliver high-quality programs and experiences.
- Manage program logistics, including scheduling, transportation, venue reservations, supplies, and event setup and breakdown.
- Track attendance, engagement, and resident feedback to evaluate programs and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Support new resident onboarding by introducing available programs and encouraging early participation.
- Maintain current CPR certification and respond appropriately to emergencies.
Aquatics and Pool Management
- Oversee the daily management and operation of the communitys outdoor saltwater pool and aquatics program.
- Ensure compliance with applicable pool safety, health, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain required City of Virginia Beach pool certifications, permits, and annual licensing.
- Coordinate with the pool vendor to ensure safe, clean, and well-maintained pool operations.
- Monitor pool vendor performance and address operational or service concerns as needed.
- Coordinate pool maintenance, inspections, repairs, and other vendor services.
- Evaluate opportunities for contracted pool management support and assist with vendor coordination as appropriate.
- Ensure appropriate emergency procedures and safety protocols are in place and followed.
Continental Breakfast Program Management (Monday - Friday)
- Plan, procure, and manage supplies for the weekday continental breakfast program.
- Source products strategically through Westminster-Canterbury Dining/Catering, Restaurant Depot, Sams Club, and other approved vendors.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and monitor costs to support efficient operations.
- Coordinate daily setup, presentation, replenishment, and breakdown of the breakfast program.
- Monitor food quality, freshness, cleanliness, and resident satisfaction.
- Ensure compliance with applicable food safety standards and community procedures
Budgeting, Administration & Communication
- Develop and manage program budgets while monitoring expenses and identifying opportunities for cost-effective operations.
- Maintain accurate records of vendor agreements, program participation, certifications, licenses, and other required documentation.
- Promote programs through newsletters, digital platforms, community calendars, and resident announcements.
- Ensure programs and activities comply with community policies and applicable regulations.
- Foster strong cross-departmental collaboration and maintain a positive, responsive, and solutions-oriented approach.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, and remain physically active for extended periods.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds, including fitness equipment and program supplies.
- Ability to demonstrate exercises and safely lead fitness activities and classes.
- Ability to see and hear adequately to monitor participant safety and respond to emergencies.
- Ability to perform CPR and other lifesaving techniques when required.
The Experience You'll Bring
Required
- Bachelors Degree in Exercise Science, Sports Medicine, Therapeutic Recreation, Hospitality Management, or related field OR 3+ years of relevant experience.
- Current CPR certification and ability to perform lifesaving techniques, or willingness to obtain it within 60 days of hire.
- Ability to obtain and maintain required City of Virginia Beach pool certifications
- Demonstrated experience developing and leading fitness programming for a geriatric population.
- Strong organizational, budgeting, and vendor management skills.
- Experience in hospitality-style service delivery and inventory management.
Preferred
- Certification as instructor/personal trainer from ACSM, NASM, NSCA, ACE, or similar.
- Experience managing aquatics operations.
- Experience working with active adult or senior living communities.
- Proficiency in Google Suite
Compensation & Benefits
- Compensation Range : $51,500 - $61,500 (based on relevant experience)
