About this role
The vocation of every member of Christs Faithful is first and foremost to know Jesus, to love Jesus, and to serve Jesus. The Sacred Music Director assists Christs Faithful within the parish boundaries of the Lakewood Catholic Parish Family especially at St. John Bosco Parish to bring people closer to Almighty God and to know and love His Son, Our Lord through the Churchs treasury of Sacred Music.
Job Duties
- Work with Fr. Lou and the staff of Lakewood Catholic Parish Family to assist parishioners in growing in Faith and virtue.
- Coordinates the development and implementation of the music program for the parish family. Implements the music program, makes music selections, and schedules and oversees musicians in collaboration with the Director of Sacred Music, Pastor, and other staff as appropriate.
- Assists in the development of Sacred Music and training of parish musicians to sing beautiful sacred music from select sources, especially the sacred Tradition and at this time the Source and Summit hymnal.
- Directs the choir (s) of the parish. Recruits, trains, and supports parish ministers of music, including the Cantor/leaders of song, and choral groups.
- Provides assistance for parishioners needing music for weddings and funerals as requested by the Sacred Music Director.
Qualifications
Requirements
- Believes everything contained in the word of God, whether written or handed down in Tradition, which the Church, either by a solemn judgment or by the ordinary and universal Magisterium, sets forth to be believed as divinely revealed. Also firmly accepts and holds each and everything definitively proposed by the Church regarding teaching on faith and morals.
- Desires to grow in an authentic life of prayer and unity with Jesus Christ in the Catholic Church.
- Knowledge (or willingness to learn) of the Churchs magisterial teaching on Sacred Music.
- Knowledge (or willingness to learn) of choral directing practices.
- Bachelors degree (or higher) in music performance.
- Proven piano and/or organ skills.
Preferred
- Degree in Theology or advanced education in teaching the Catholic Faith.
- Experience in field of study.
- Vocal proficiencies.
- Other experience in leadership and organization.
