Job Description

The NBCUniversal State & Local Government Affairs team develops and executes advocacy strategies that advance NBCUniversal’s business priorities and protect the company’s operations at the state and local levels. The team engages directly with state and local elected officials and manages relationships with trade associations and other third-party organizations to build support for NBCUniversal’s public policy agenda. NBCUniversal is looking for a Director, Government Affairs, to support the company in Los Angeles.

This Director position will report directly to the Senior Vice President, Head of Public Policy with matrix reporting to Vice President of Government and External Affairs.

Here You Can:

- Develop and maintain relationships with policymakers, industry associations, community organizations, business groups and other key stakeholders in Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles.
- Manage the public policy environment affecting NBCUniversal’s Los Angeles-area business operations including identifying risks, opportunities, and strategic advocacy priorities.
- Identify, monitor, and analyze national trends in state and local public policy, including legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the company.
- Partner with internal stakeholders across NBCUniversal, including Legal, Compliance Communications, and relevant business units, to assess policy impacts, and to develop advocacy strategies for advancing business objectives.
- Advocate externally for policy positions that advance NBCUniversal’s corporate objectives and protect its business interests.
- Clearly articulate the company’s policy positions through briefing materials, written responses, presentations, and internal policy discussions.
- In partnership with NBCU’s Vice President of Government and External Affairs, develop and execute advocacy and stakeholder engagement strategies on issues affecting NBCUniversal in key jurisdictions across the country.
- Support advocacy efforts designed to inform public opinion and influence legislative and regulatory decision-making through education, effective communication, and coalition building.
- Represent NBCUniversal at industry conferences, public hearings, and other relevant events, serving as a credible ambassador for the company’s positions and interests.
- Draft letters, presentations, testimony, and other materials communicating the company’s positions on legislative and regulatory matters.
- Stay informed about industry developments, emerging state and local policy issues, and evolving regulatory frameworks.
- Advise senior leadership on emerging legislative, regulatory, and political developments, providing strategic recommendations regarding potential risks, opportunities, and business impacts

Qualifications

Here You'll Need:

- Bachelor’s degree in political science, international affairs, government, public affairs, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least seven years of experience in public policy, government affairs, government service, or a related field such as crisis and issue management.
- Demonstrated experience developing and executing government affairs, public policy, or stakeholder engagement strategies in a complex, highly matrixed environment.
- Deep knowledge of local legislative processes in Los Angeles County and/or the City of Los Angeles.
- Solid political network in Los Angeles.
- Exceptional writing and verbal skills, including the ability to distill complex policy issues into clear explanations and compelling messages.
- Outstanding project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to evaluate legislative and regulatory proposals and assess their potential impact on the company.
- Excellent organizational skills and proficiency with Microsoft suite of products such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.

Salary range: $130,000- $170,000 (bonus and long-term incentive eligible)
