About this role

About us

Manhattan Gastroenterology is a 14-physician gastroenterology practice serving patients across New York City. We provide complete digestive care, from office visits to endoscopy, and we are investing in technology to make care faster, safer and easier for patients and staff. We are hiring a dedicated Healthcare IT & EMR Manager to lead that work.

Requirements

Position summary

The Healthcare IT & EMR Manager owns all technology for Manhattan Gastroenterology and reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer. This hands-on role plans technology projects and personally supports staff day to day: making the EMR work well for physicians and staff, connecting our systems, introducing AI where it saves time or improves care, and giving patients modern ways to reach us. The manager has the authority to set technology standards and lead changes across the practice.

- Reports to: Chief Operating Officer (COO)
- Works closely with: Practice leadership, clinical and administrative teams, Revenue Cycle, Marketing, and outside EMR and technology vendors
- Location: On-site at our main office (27th Street and Sixth Avenue, Manhattan), with travel to other practice locations
- Job type: Full-time, exempt

Systems supported

The manager is the practice's go-to expert for our platforms and how they connect: eClinicalWorks (eCW), Provation, VitalAxis, NexHealth, Zocdoc, Nextiva, CallRail, PerfectServe, Google Workspace and ADP (with HR).

Key responsibilities

EMR leadership (superuser)

- Serve as the practice's top eClinicalWorks (eCW) expert and first escalation point for physicians and staff, and train new and existing staff.
- Build and maintain templates, order sets, smart phrases and workflows for GI visits, procedures and pathology.
- Manage eCW upgrades and testing, and optimize documentation and charge capture with Revenue Cycle.

AI and automation

- Identify where AI saves time or improves quality, such as ambient documentation, prior authorization, coding support, inbox triage and phone scheduling.
- Evaluate vendors, run pilots and measure results, with clear guardrails for HIPAA, business associate agreements and physician review.
- Automate repetitive administrative tasks such as faxes, referrals, eligibility checks and reminders.

Interfaces and integration

- Own how our systems connect, including eCW, Provation, VitalAxis, NexHealth, Zocdoc and Nextiva, plus outside labs, e-prescribing and health information exchanges.
- Manage HL7 and FHIR interface projects with vendors, from scoping through go-live.
- Monitor interfaces for failures and lost results, and reduce duplicate data entry.

Patient digital engagement

- Lead the patient portal, online scheduling through NexHealth and Zocdoc, digital intake, reminders, telehealth and online bill pay.
- Build outreach campaigns, such as colonoscopy recall and prep instructions, with Marketing and clinical teams.
- Track adoption, no-show rates and patient feedback, and support Marketing with the website, reviews and CallRail analytics.

IT support and infrastructure

- Provide hands-on help desk support for computers, printers, phones, Wi-Fi, Google Workspace and user accounts.
- Maintain the network, cloud services, backups and equipment, including procedure-room and lab devices.
- Manage technology policies, the equipment inventory, and onboarding and offboarding of accounts.

Cybersecurity and data protection

- Run security as an ongoing program: multi-factor authentication, least-privilege access, endpoint protection, encryption and patching across all systems.
- Maintain tested backups and a downtime and disaster recovery plan, and lead the annual HIPAA security risk assessment.
- Train staff on phishing, vet vendor security, and lead incident response.

Strategy, vendors and budget

- Maintain a 12–24 month technology roadmap tied to practice priorities.
- Prepare the technology budget for leadership approval, manage contracts and renewals, and negotiate with vendors.
- Report regularly to leadership on projects, costs and results. As the practice grows, recommend when to add technology staff and help hire, train and supervise them.

Qualifications

Required

- Bachelor's degree in health informatics, information systems, computer science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years in healthcare IT, including at least 2 years leading projects or teams.
- At least 2 years of hands-on eClinicalWorks (eCW) experience at superuser, administrator or analyst level, including template building, user setup, and practice management and billing.
- Hands-on desktop, network and Google Workspace administration, plus working knowledge of HL7 and FHIR.
- Strong HIPAA knowledge and practical security experience (MFA, endpoint protection, backups, access control), with proven vendor management and the ability to explain technology plainly.

Preferred

- Experience in a multi-specialty or GI healthcare practice.
- Experience deploying AI tools in a clinical setting, such as ambient scribes or automated prior authorization.
- Certifications such as CompTIA Security+, CPHIMS, or formal eClinicalWorks training.
- Background in patient engagement platforms and digital marketing analytics.

Compensation and benefits

- Salary: $110,000–$130,000 per year, based on experience
- Medical, dental and vision insurance
- 401(k) retirement plan with a 3% employer profit-sharing contribution, whether or not you contribute
- Paid time off and paid holidays
- Direct access to practice leadership and room to grow
