About the Role:
The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University invites applications for an Associate Teaching Professor position in one or more of the following applied areas; flute, clarinet, oboe or bassoon and Woodwind Area Coordinator within the Music Program, beginning Fall 2027. This position's main responsibilities are to teach a full undergraduate course load each semester (typically a combination of courses and applied lessons) and share curriculum oversight; maintain creative/ professional achievement; and service to the university and community.  As a NASM accredited program, teaching responsibilities adhere to loads as prescribed by NASM.

The School of the Arts at Northern Kentucky University offers a wide array of degree programs in the visual and performing arts. The Music Program within the School of the Arts offers a BME in Music Education (Choral/Vocal and Instrumental), a BM in Performance (Instrumental, Jazz Studies, Piano Pedagogy, and Voice) a BM in Composition (Traditional Composition or Commercial Music Production) and a BA in Music (Liberal Studies). Job Details:

- Teach applied studio flute, oboe, clarinet, or bassoon

- Recruit and maintain a high-quality applied studio through teaching and performance activities.

- Coach woodwind chamber ensemble and other collaborative chamber music experiences

- Coordinate the Woodwind Area.

- Demonstrated ability and/or evidence to contribute effectively to one or more secondary areas. Secondary area teaching responsibilities may include music theory, music history, aural skills, woodwind methods or other courses as assigned. The Music Program is open to innovative and broad skill sets that may benefit our program in unexpected ways.

- In the applied area, evidence of effective applied teaching and mentoring of students should be present.

- Successful recruitment and retention in the private applied studio are an important point of consideration.

- Applicants should demonstrate a commitment to student-centered teaching and to creating a supportive learning environment for students with varied backgrounds, experiences, and professional goals.

Qualifications:

Applicants should either possess a Doctorate in Music or a Master of Music degree with commensurate  exceptional experience.

- Successful applicants will demonstrate the potential for a successful career in teaching and for sustained engagement in professional Evidence ofongoing professional, creative, pedagogical, and/or scholarly  engagement appropriate to the position is required.
- Successful teaching at the university level (at least two years preferred) and sustained experience as a solo and ensemble performer is required.
- The candidate must remain current within the music discipline and apply continued knowledge towards course instruction, provide mentorship along with fellow faculty to music students, maintain office hours to be accessible to students and staff, submit mid-term and final grades according to University deadlines, and work cooperatively with all SOTA faculty.
