About this role

SAIC is seeking an experienced and technically skilled Senior Systems Engineer to support NSWC Crane and the Sea-Launched Cruise Missile – Nuclear (SLCM-N) program. In this role, you will perform a broad range of systems engineering activities in support of one of the Department of Defense’s highest-priority nuclear modernization programs. The successful candidate will assist the Navy is directing and managing a competitive prototyping development effort and apply a complete understanding of systems engineering principles to deliver innovative, technically sound solutions that meet mission requirements within schedule and cost constraints.

The Senior Systems Engineer will perform systems engineering activities including concept of operations formulation, requirements definition, analysis and engineering, system architecting, system analysis and design, interface and data architectures, validation and verification, systems integration, system and operational performance analysis, lifecycle cost analysis and estimation, decision analysis, and physical configuration analysis (PCA). The role ensures the logical and systematic conversion of product requirements into total systems solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform functional analysis, timeline analysis, detail trade studies, requirements allocation, and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into hardware, software, or engineering specifications
- Represent the Navy in a competitive prototyping environment implementing system engineering and technical review best practices and processes
- Develop and maintain systems engineering documentation including concept of operations, systems engineering plans, requirements specifications, and interface control documents
- Support system architecting, design, integration, and verification and validation activities across the SLCM-N program lifecycle
- Conduct lifecycle cost analysis, estimation, and decision analysis to support program planning and acquisition decisions
- Provide specific, detailed information for selection, implementation techniques, and tools for the most efficient solution to meet current and future program requirements
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams, government program office staff, and industry partners to resolve complex technical issues
- Support program milestone reviews including Preliminary Design Reviews (PDRs), Critical Design Reviews (CDRs), and Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs)
- Represent the organization in providing solutions to difficult technical issues associated with specific projects
- Provide direction to team members in accordance with established policies and management guidance

Required Qualifications

- Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related discipline with 5 or more years of related experience; OR Master’s degree with 3 or more years of related experience; OR PhD with related experience
- Complete understanding and wide application of systems engineering technical principles, theories, and concepts
- Experience performing systems engineering activities including requirements development, system design, integration, and verification and validation
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
- Proficiency with standard industry and government office and analytical tools including Microsoft Office Suite
- Interim secret clearance required to start with the ability to obtain a secret clearance. SAIC will sponsor the clearance process.
- U.S. Citizenship required

Preferred Qualifications

- Strong preference for candidates with prior missile development or missile systems program experience
- Experience supporting Navy or DoD weapons systems acquisition programs
- Familiarity with DoD 5000 series acquisition policies and systems engineering standards
- Knowledge of Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies and tools
- Experience with requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or equivalent and product lifecycle management tools such as PTC Windchill.
- INCOSE Certified Systems Engineering Professional (CSEP) or equivalent certification
