Project Manager / Estimator – Heavy Civil Construction

Rome, NY | Full-Time | On-site | Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM

95,000– 100,000 per year + generous benefits

About the Company

Our client is a booming heavy civil construction company in Rome, NY. They provide specialty construction services to government and commercial entities nationwide. They are running about 10 projects at a time, both state and private. There is far more work available than there are construction companies to build it, so this is a chance to join a team with real momentum and long-term job security. They work with union labor.

The Role

This is a hybrid role: you will estimate and bid new work, then carry the jobs you win through to closeout. If you want to see a project from the first takeoff to the final pay application, this is the position.

What You’ll Do

Estimating

- Review bid documents, plans, specs, and addenda; attend pre-bid meetings and site visits

- Perform quantity takeoffs for earthwork, drainage, utilities, and paving

- Build estimates in Bid2Win, including labor, equipment, materials, and production rates

- Solicit and compare subcontractor and supplier quotes

- Prepare and submit bids for state and private work, and take part in bid reviews

- Hand off awarded jobs: set up budgets, buy out subcontracts, and issue purchase orders

Project Management

- Manage several active projects from award through closeout, covering schedule, budget, and scope

- Track job costs and forecasts in Vista

- Prepare submittals, RFIs, change orders, and monthly pay applications

- Coordinate crews, equipment, and materials with superintendents and foremen

- Manage subcontractors and suppliers, including union labor requirements

- Serve as the main contact for owners, engineers, and inspectors, and run progress meetings

- Travel to in-state job sites as needed (occasional overnight stays, not often)

What You Bring

- 5+ years of experience in estimating AND project management

- MUST HAVE civil / heavy highway construction

- Degree or credentials preferred, but proven “homegrown” experience is equally welcome

- Experience with Bid2Win and Vista, or similar estimating and project cost software is a plus

Compensation & Benefits

- 95,000– 100,000 per year

- 401(k) with 4% company match

- Paid time off

- Paid sick time

- Paid holidays

- Car allowance

- Generous benefits package
