Senior Technical Officer

We're looking for a Senior Technical Officer (STO) to join our Energy Networks team, bringing advanced technical expertise to the construction, operation and maintenance of critical gas infrastructure. This is a role for someone who enjoys solving complex problems, sharing knowledge and helping others develop their skills.

You'll be more than a technical expert. You'll be a coach, mentor and trusted guide for fitters, apprentices and field crews, helping ensure work is completed safely, efficiently and to the highest standard. Whether its fault finding on gas control equipment, supporting major maintenance activities or providing guidance during high-risk work, you'll play a key role in keeping the network operating safely and reliably.

What you'll do

- Provide advanced technical support across gas regulating and control equipment
- Support the construction, commissioning, maintenance and operation of critical gas assets
- Lead fault-finding, diagnostics and troubleshooting activities
- Coach and mentor fitters, apprentices and junior employees in the field
- Support Supervisors with work planning, sequencing and technical reviews
- Provide technical leadership during complex, high-risk and non-routine works
- Assist with emergency response, operational support and standby activities
- Help drive a strong Zero Harm culture through leadership and example

What we're looking for

- Trade qualification as a Fitter & Turner, Mechanical Fitter or equivalent gas industry background
- Extensive experience working with gas pressure regulating and control equipment
- Strong practical knowledge of valves, regulators, pilot systems and pressure control operations
- Proven ability to mentor and support the development of field-based employees
- Experience working within construction, maintenance or operational gas network environments
- Strong understanding of permits, isolations, purging, venting and safe work practices
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to explain technical information clearly
- A safety-first mindset and commitment to operational excellence
