Auckland Council’s Building Consent department has exciting opportunities for Senior Building Surveyors within the Project Assessment team. In this senior role, you will be instrumental in guiding and mentoring your team while ensuring the efficient processing of building consents for both residential and commercial applications. You'll play a vital part in shaping the quality of the built environment in Auckland, contributing to solutions for the city’s building shortage, all while fostering professional development within your team.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

- Reviewing building consent plans and making informed compliance decisions.

- Mentoring and coaching processing officers on technical matters.

- Developing and implementing training initiatives to enhance team skills.

- Collaborating with team leaders and managers to identify and address non-conformance issues.

- Driving measurable improvements across team capability, operational performance, and the overall quality of outputs through a proven, evidence‑backed track record of elevating skills and effectiveness.

The role requires a proven ability to lead with strategic clarity, elevate performance standards, and drive the consistent delivery of high‑quality outcomes. It also demands a demonstrable track record of measurably increasing team capability, operational efficacy, and overall output quality, ensuring that individuals and teams not only meet expectations but continually grow beyond them. You will bring experience in similar positions, supported by a sound understanding of the building consent process and relevant legislative requirements. Strong leadership skills and the ability to mentor and develop staff are essential, enabling you to guide team members in their professional growth and uphold a culture of excellence.

We will be looking for specific experience with:

- Extensive experience in the building industry, preferably in a BCA environment.

- Regulation 18 compliant qualifications and technical competency (Com1 or above).

- A proven history of significantly elevating team skills, boosting operational performance, and enhancing the quality of delivered outcomes.

- Comprehensive knowledge of all building-related fields, including technical knowledge of design/construction principles and practices.

- Familiarity with the Building Act 2004, Local Government Act 2002, and Resource Management Act 1991.

- Strong verbal and written communication skills.

- Excellent planning and prioritisation abilities.

- High numeracy and strong process orientation.

This role has a remuneration range of $105,579 - $111,789 (based on skills and experience)

Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
