As a Metrology Engineer at Lam Research, you will play a key role in developing advanced semiconductor processes. What you’ll do

- Conduct research, development, and evaluation in support of process development and the production of Lam's advanced semiconductor equipment.
- Apply advanced metrology techniques to support semiconductor manufacturing processes.
- Generate, organize, analyze, and interpret data; develop and modify recipes; and provide individual technical support to technologists.
- Ensure measurement quality and reliability by adhering to industry standards and best practices.
- Serve as an assigned tool owner for metrology assets, with accountability for operational readiness, measurement performance, safe operation, and user support.
- Coordinate calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, vendor service, and post-service qualification to minimize downtime and restore capabilities quickly.
- Monitor tool health, utilization, capacity, uptime, and recurring failure modes.
- Use data to identify risks and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
- Recommend improvements to laboratory performance and workflows, help develop new metrology capabilities, and regularly evaluate key metrology assets using statistical process control (SPC) methods.
- Maintain accurate and detailed documentation of metrology procedures, calibration records, and equipment specifications.
- Define application use cases, sample plans, success criteria, and evaluation methods for new-tool demonstrations and capability assessments.
- Compare tool performance against technical requirements, existing capabilities, and workflow needs.
- The metrology toolset may include CD-SEM, HV-SEM, review SEM, analytical SEM, optical and X-ray thin-film measurement systems (ellipsometry, XRF, and XRR), atomic force microscopes (AFM), profilometers, defect-inspection systems, FTIR, TXRF, and other technologies.

Who we’re looking for

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field with at least two years of relevant work experience; or a master’s degree in a related field with no prior professional experience required.
## Preferred qualifications

- Hands-on laboratory experience conducting experiments and working with metrology equipment, samples, recipes, and technical data.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze data, troubleshoot equipment or application issues, and accurately document technical work.
- Working knowledge of productivity and data-analysis tools such as Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Python, and Power BI.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical information to users with varying levels of experience.
- Ability and willingness to work a swing-shift schedule.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories – On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. ‘On-site Flex’ you’ll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. ‘Virtual Flex’ you’ll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $73,000.00 -  $159,000.00.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
