Supplier Engineering & Technology (SET)
The impact you’ll make
The Manager, Engineering within Supplier Engineering & Technology (SET) leads supplier engineering activities for an assigned technical, commodity, or organizational scope. The role combines people leadership with supplier engineering execution, cross-functional technical alignment, and responsibility for delivering results through the team. The manager translates business and engineering objectives into priorities, resources work, develops engineering capability, and provides guidance on complex supplier, quality, manufacturing, qualification, and change-control issues.
SET is an organization focused on innovation in manufacturing technology, materials, and supply chain design. Supplier Engineering works across organizational functions to resolve technical, quality, and production challenges and to develop excellence in product design and manufacturing.
What you’ll do
- Lead and manage the daily activities of Supplier Engineers within the assigned SET scope, with accountability for results, priorities, methods, staffing, schedules, and effective use of resources.
- Convert organizational objectives into clear team priorities and work plans; allocate resources to meet schedules, qualification commitments, technical deliverables, and business goals.
- Coach, mentor, and develop engineers; set expectations, provide feedback, build technical depth, and foster a culture of ownership, open communication, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical leadership for supplier-related manufacturing, quality, reliability, and product-life-cycle challenges, including new product introduction and supplier production readiness.
- Participate in supplier-change business-case alignment and approve the required level of SET engagement where assigned by process; set priority and align SET resources for engineering work.
- Support supplier onboarding and technical qualification. Ensure appropriate technical assessment, QMS/POR review, supplier coaching, and cross-functional alignment are completed in accordance with applicable processes.
- Lead or support supplier manufacturing-site assessments, audits, investigations, and reviews; ensure findings are translated into systematic and lasting product and process improvements.
- Ensure the team applies appropriate engineering-design documentation, product qualification, engineering change, supplier change-control, quality-system, and problem-solving disciplines.
- Monitor execution and closure of supplier engineering work, including problem reports, qualifications, corrective actions, and change-control activities; escalate risks and resource conflicts as appropriate.
- Communicate technical status, risk, priorities, decisions, and recovery plans clearly to management and cross-functional stakeholders.
Who we’re looking for
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an engineering or related technical discipline or equivalent with 4-6 years of supervisory experience.
- Demonstrated engineering experience in manufacturing, quality, supplier engineering, product qualification, or a closely related technical environment.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical work through engineers and cross-functional teams and to make or facilitate sound technical decisions.
- Strong written, verbal, analytical, and presentation skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
- Experience with semiconductor capital equipment, complex electromechanical assemblies, or low-volume/high-mix manufacturing.
- Experience leading supplier qualification, supplier quality, manufacturing-process improvement, technical audits, or production-readiness activities.
- Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, DFMA, SPC, PFMEA, RCCA, nonconforming-material disposition, ERP systems, and manufacturing/test process controls.
- Experience managing multiple priorities across geographically distributed internal teams and suppliers.
- Proven ability to develop engineering talent and build effective cross-functional relationships.
Preferred qualifications
- Drive meaningful results through the team and maintain focus through obstacles and setbacks.
- Use sound judgment to determine when to act independently and when to escalate.
- Create an environment that supports development, inclusion, mutual trust, accountability, and candid communication.
- Balance short-term execution with longer-term business and organizational priorities.
- Use data and relevant financial or quantitative insights to guide team actions and performance.
- Lead constructively through change, ambiguity, shifting priorities, and technical risk.
