Overview:

Horizon Farm Credit is actively recruiting for a Special Assets Officer to join our Credit team. Qualified candidate may work in any available Horizon Farm Credit branch. In this role, you will manage a portfolio of high-risk loan relationships, evaluate borrower financial information, develop restructuring recommendations, and coordinate collection and recovery efforts when necessary. You'll work alongside lending staff, leadership, legal counsel, and customers to determine the most effective resolution strategies while supporting Horizon's mission of serving agriculture and rural communities.

Position Description:

As a Special Assets Officer, you will be responsible for managing and servicing a portfolio of high-risk assets, including loans in bankruptcy, foreclosure, nonaccrual status, and other distressed credit situations. You will analyze financial information, evaluate recovery alternatives, develop servicing strategies, and help guide customers through challenging circumstances while minimizing losses and protecting Association assets.

Areas of Responsibility :

- Manage a portfolio of high-risk assets, including loans in bankruptcy, foreclosure, nonaccrual status, acquired property, and other distressed loan relationships.

- Collaborate with lending staff and leadership to develop and implement effective servicing, collection, and recovery strategies for complex accounts.

- Analyze borrower financial information and evaluate restructuring, collection, and recovery alternatives to determine the least-cost resolution strategy for the Association.

- Develop and document servicing plans for assigned accounts and monitor progress toward resolution objectives.

- Negotiate repayment solutions, restructuring arrangements, and other servicing options with borrowers when appropriate.

- Coordinate legal collection efforts with counsel and assist in managing litigation-related activities involving assigned accounts.

- Manage and facilitate the liquidation of acquired property to maximize recovery for the Association.

- Maintain accurate loan file documentation, CRM records, and portfolio reporting to ensure timely and complete account management.

- Develop knowledge of bankruptcy laws, borrower rights regulations, and collection practices while serving as a resource to colleagues on special assets topics.

- Build productive relationships with distressed customers while balancing customer needs and sound business decision-making.

Education & Experience:

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Business Administration, Agriculture, Economics, or Finance preferred.

- Generally, one to three years of agricultural lending experience, commercial lending experience is preferred.

Requirements:

- Strong analytical, business judgment, and financial interpretation skills.

- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

- Strong negotiation, presentation, and relationship-management skills.

- Ability to effectively manage difficult or emotionally charged customer situations.

- Demonstrated ability to make sound business decisions that balance borrower needs with Association objectives.

- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

- Knowledge of agricultural production and economic factors affecting the region preferred. Farm Credit and agricultural background preferred.

- Adaptable and flexible to a changing work environment.

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $86,400 with a midpoint of $102,900. This range reflects current market compensation data and our commitment to competitive, equitable pay. The starting rate is based on the applicant’s relevant experience, qualifications, and internal equity considerations. Most new hires are offered a starting rate between the minimum and midpoint of the range, although placement elsewhere in the range may be appropriate based on the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
