Job Title: Test Technician Job Description The Test Technician performs detailed dimensional and functional inspections of electromechanical and surgical accessory devices, executes verification and limit-testing under challenging conditions, and documents results in compliance with GLP and cGMP requirements. This role works hands-on with a wide range of laboratory and electronic test equipment to support product quality, test method development, and verification protocols in the medical device field. Responsibilities
- Perform dimensional inspections of components and assemblies using appropriate metrology equipment.
- Conduct functional inspections of surgical accessory devices used with various surgical systems and competitor surgical equipment.
- Execute tests that assess design failure limits under excessive mechanical forces, extreme environmental conditions, and abnormal-use conditions.
- Carry out formal verification testing and generate complete, accurate, and traceable test records.
- Conduct simulated test-execution studies to help Test Engineers develop and refine test methods and evaluate test protocols.
- Set up, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, including scales, temperature probes, beakers, torque gauges, force gauges, pressure gauges, oscilloscopes, pull-test equipment, computerized data-acquisition systems, and environmental conditioning chambers.
- Follow applicable GLP and cGMP requirements for all work performed and records generated.
- Apply troubleshooting skills to identify issues with test setups, equipment, or devices under test.
- Support calibration and verification of test equipment as needed to ensure accurate measurements.
- Work independently at a laboratory bench for extended periods while maintaining high attention to detail.
- Handle small parts and assemblies with care and precision, including work under a microscope.
- Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to support verification protocols and continuous improvement of test methods.
Essential Skills
- High school diploma or GED plus at least five years of relevant experience in quality inspection, laboratory testing, or service diagnostics for electromechanical products; or a related associate or technical degree plus at least two years of relevant job experience; or a related bachelors degree or higher, preferably in mechanical engineering, physics, or a similar discipline, plus relevant coursework or internship experience.
- Hands-on experience with quality or functional inspection and testing using electronic equipment.
- Ability to operate electronic test equipment, including meters, oscilloscopes, and related instrumentation.
- Experience using metrology equipment for dimensional inspections.
- Strong troubleshooting skills in electrical and mechanical test environments.
- Ability to read and work with electrical and electronic concepts, including schematics and test equipment usage.
- Soldering capability appropriate for working with electronic assemblies and test setups.
- High manual dexterity and visual acuity, including the ability to work with small parts under a microscope.
- Ability to maintain accurate, complete, and legible test records in compliance with GLP and GDP requirements.
- Ability to work independently, learn quickly, and adapt to changing project needs.
- Ability to lift light-to-moderate loads and work at a laboratory bench for extended periods.
- Familiarity with GLP (Good Laboratory Practice), cGMP (current Good Manufacturing Practice), and GDP (Good Documentation Practice) in a testing or laboratory environment.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science or relevant technical degree plus four years of testing experience in quality-control or engineering/scientific testing services.
- Demonstrated use of basic and advanced metrology equipment in a regulated GLP or cGMP environment.
- Experience using oscilloscopes, data loggers, and automated data-acquisition systems.
- Experience in engineering, electronics, or electrical/mechanical test technician work.
- Experience with verification protocols and formal test documentation in a regulated environment.
- Medical-device testing and prototyping experience.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable test data.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with engineers and other technical professionals while also working independently.
- Motivation to learn from experienced professionals and grow within the medical device field.
Work Environment This role operates 100% in a laboratory and test environment focused on medical devices and electromechanical products. You will work primarily at a lab bench using equipment such as scales, temperature probes, beakers, torque, force and pressure gauges, oscilloscopes, pull-test equipment, computerized data-acquisition systems, data loggers, and environmental conditioning chambers. The position involves handling small components, often under a microscope, and lifting light-to-moderate loads. Work follows GLP, cGMP, and GDP standards, emphasizing precise documentation and controlled procedures. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.88 - $35.88/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
