Job Title: Civil/Structural Designer Design Checker Job Description
The Civil/Structural Designer will serve as the designated checker for civil and structural drawings and 3D models across multiple projects, ensuring technical accuracy, constructability, and full compliance with applicable codes and standards. This role contributes directly to the design of steel, reinforced concrete, foundation, and civil systems for industrial and power facilities, while coordinating closely with multidisciplinary teams to deliver highquality, fully integrated design packages.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the designated checker for civil, concrete, structural steel, and architectural drawings and 3D models across multiple projects prior to issuance.
- Verify the accuracy, constructability, completeness, and consistency of all civil and structural design deliverables in both 2D and 3D environments.
- Perform comprehensive 3D model reviews, including geometry, connectivity, clash detection, and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Ensure all designs and deliverables comply with ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, OSHA, client standards, and internal company standards.
- Act as a QA/QC gatekeeper to confirm that all drawings, models, and documents meet established quality standards before release.
- Develop and review designs for civil systems such as grading and drainage, as well as structural steel, reinforced concrete, foundations, and architectural components.
- Prepare and refine designs based on sketches, drawings, and pertinent industry codes and standards.
- Apply fundamental structural engineering principles, industry standards, and applicable building codes to project designs.
- Support the development of both conceptual and detailed structural designs for industrial and power facilities.
- Coordinate design activities and resolve interface issues with mechanical, electrical, piping, and construction teams.
- Review supplier, vendor, and shop drawings, as well as construction submittals, for technical compliance and alignment with design intent and project requirements.
- Participate in design reviews and constructability evaluations to identify and mitigate potential design and construction risks.
- Identify, clearly communicate, and help resolve discrepancies, clashes, and potential risks in collaboration with project teams.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of QA/QC processes and design standards within the civil/structural discipline.
Essential Skills
- Proven experience as a civil/structural designer with responsibility for checking drawings and 3D models for accuracy and constructability.
- Strong knowledge of structural engineering principles and structural design for steel, reinforced concrete, and foundation systems.
- Hands-on experience developing and reviewing designs for civil systems, including grading and drainage.
- Demonstrated ability to perform QA/QC checks and act as a quality gatekeeper for civil/structural deliverables.
- Working knowledge of and ability to ensure compliance with ACI, AISC, ASCE, IBC, and OSHA requirements.
- Ability to review and interpret vendor, supplier, and shop drawings and assess technical compliance with design intent.
- Experience performing 3D model reviews, including geometry checks, connectivity verification, clash detection, and interdisciplinary coordination.
- Proficiency in civil and structural design within both 2D and 3D environments.
- Strong coordination skills for working with mechanical, electrical, piping, and construction teams.
- Attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies, clashes, and potential risks in designs and models.
- Solid understanding of code compliance, design standards, and QA/QC processes in a civil/structural engineering context.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience contributing to structural designs for industrial and power facilities.
- Background in using structural analysis and design tools such as STAAD or similar software.
- Familiarity with PDMS or other 3D plant design/modeling platforms.
- Experience with architectural components as they relate to structural and civil design.
- Ability to participate effectively in design reviews and constructability evaluations.
- Strong communication skills to clearly convey technical findings and coordinate issue resolution with multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently while maintaining close collaboration with project stakeholders.

Work Environment
This is an inoffice position within a closeknit and collaborative team environment that values culture, mutual support, and longterm project stability. The organization operates on a compressed work schedule, working four ninehour days and a halfday on Friday, providing a balanced workweek while maintaining productivity. The role involves daily interaction with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, piping, and construction professionals, and regular engagement with 2D and 3D design tools and QA/QC processes. The company is privately held, which supports a stable, longterm focus and a protective approach to maintaining a positive, lowconflict workplace.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Greenville, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85.00 - $89.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
