Hours: 15 hours per week
Shifts: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m., weekdays and alternating weekends, with additional coverage as required

Position Summary
The Administrative Dietetic Technician is responsible for the accurate, timely, and safe management of patient diet orders, food preferences, allergies, nourishments, and meal service information within the Computrition system. Working collaboratively with Registered Dietitians, Speech-Language Pathologists, Nursing, and Nutrition Services staff, the incumbent ensures therapeutic diets and nutrition care plans are accurately implemented and maintained, supports patient safety and meal service quality, serves as a liaison between clinical teams and Nutrition Services, and provides Computrition system administration, training, and technical support through the effective interpretation and application of patient information and clinical orders.
Duties
- Enters, updates, verifies, and maintains patient diet orders, food preferences, allergies, nourishments, fluid restrictions, texture modifications, and other meal service information within Computrition.
- Processes and prioritizes time-sensitive diet order changes in accordance with established departmental procedures and clinical requirements.
- Reviews information documented within the Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and other clinical systems to ensure diet orders, nutrition care plans, and meal service requirements are accurately reflected within Computrition.
- Interprets therapeutic and special diet orders and ensures their accurate implementation within Computrition.
- Reviews and resolves Smart Substitution conflicts and other system-generated exceptions to ensure compliance with prescribed diets and patient safety.
- Maintains the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of patient diet information and meal service data within Computrition.
- Identifies and monitors patients requiring special dietary interventions to ensure tray tickets, menus, nourishments, and meal selections are accurate and compliant with prescribed diet orders.
- Reviews meal selections, menus, nourishments, and tray tickets to ensure compliance with therapeutic diets, allergies, texture modifications, fluid restrictions, and other clinical nutrition requirements.
- Collaborates with Registered Dietitians, Speech-Language Pathologists, Nursing, Nutrition Supervisors, Production staff, and other members of the healthcare team to ensure nutrition care plans are accurately implemented and maintained.
- Acts as a liaison between clinical units and Nutrition Services regarding diet orders, meal service concerns, patient requests, and nutrition-related issues.
- Visits patients, residents, and caregivers as required to obtain food preferences, meal requirements, and other diet-related information and to address concerns related to meal service.
- Promotes patient satisfaction by responding to, resolving, or escalating diet and meal service concerns as appropriate.
- Maintains, updates, and develops menus within Computrition, including seasonal menus, holiday menus, recipes, nourishments, therapeutic diet extensions, substitutions, and other menu system configurations required to support patient care and meal service operations.
- Maintains and updates master menus and ensures menu structures remain accurate, current, and operationally effective.
- Develops and implements new menus, menu enhancements, and system configurations as required to support changing patient, operational, and clinical needs.
- Maintains, reviews, validates, prints, organizes, and distributes tray tickets, tally reports, production reports, menu reports, and other meal service documents generated within Computrition to support efficient meal production and service delivery.
- Serves as a Computrition subject matter expert and collaborates with UHN Digital, vendors, and departmental leadership to troubleshoot system issues, support upgrades, test enhancements, and maintain system functionality.
- Develops, delivers, and maintains training and education programs related to Computrition, diet office procedures, and meal service processes.
- Coaches and supports staff in the effective use of Computrition and related workflows.
- Develops, reviews, updates, and maintains standard operating procedures (SOPs), reference materials, work instructions, training resources, and related documentation to support standardized and efficient department operations.
- Demonstrates initiative in identifying opportunities to improve processes, streamline workflows, enhance system utilization, improve data integrity, increase operational efficiency, and support continuous quality improvement initiatives within Nutrition Services.
- Participates in audits, quality assurance activities, special projects, system optimization initiatives, service improvement activities, and departmental committees as required.
- Maintains current knowledge of therapeutic diets, clinical nutrition best practices, menu management principles, food allergies, texture modifications, and relevant healthcare standards.
- Promotes effective communication and positive working relationships with patients, families, staff, and interdisciplinary team members.
- Works in compliance with all applicable occupational health and safety, patient safety, food safety, infection prevention and control, privacy, and organizational policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Completion of a two-year Food and Nutrition Management diploma from a Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) accredited college program, or an equivalent diploma or recognized post-secondary education in Food and Nutrition
- Canadian Society of Nutrition Management (CSNM) designation or membership in good standing.
- Valid Food Handler Certification
- Minimum two (2) years of experience as a Dietetic Technician or in a related healthcare nutrition services role involving therapeutic diets, nutrition care plans, diet order management, patient meal services, menu management, and/or nutrition management software.
- Bachelor of Science in Food and Nutrition or a related field, preferred
- Experience working with therapeutic diets, texture-modified diets, nourishments, food allergies, and nutrition care plans.
- Knowledge of therapeutic diets, nutrition care plans, food allergies, texture modifications, and nourishments.
- Strong working knowledge of Computrition or similar nutrition management software.
- Ability to accurately interpret and apply diet orders and clinical nutrition requirements.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within an interdisciplinary team environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.
- Ability to prioritize workload and manage competing demands in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
- Knowledge of patient safety, food safety, infection prevention and control, privacy legislation, and quality improvement principles.
- Demonstrated commitment to professionalism and patient-centred care.
- Experience maintaining menus, reports, tallies, tray tickets, nourishments, recipes, and other nutrition-related system components.
- Experience reviewing reports, identifying discrepancies, and resolving data integrity issues.
- Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including Registered Dietitians, Nursing, Speech-Language Pathologists, and Nutrition Services staff.
- Experience training and coaching staff on software applications, workflows, or departmental procedures.
- Experience developing or maintaining standard operating procedures and process documentation.
- Experience handling confidential patient information in a healthcare environment.
