About the role
The Level F PPFG & Geomechanics Advisor provides high-quality technical expertise and subsurface assurance to support safe, efficient, and reliable well planning and execution. The role integrates pore pressure, fracture gradient, and geomechanics analysis to define drilling windows, manage subsurface risk, and support critical well design decisions across exploration, developments and production.
At Level F, the Advisor operates largely independently; engages with other Subsurface & Wells Advisors; is trusted by Leadership, Wells and Subsurface teams; and contributes materially to well outcomes while continuing to build organizational capability.
Accountabilities
Well Planning & Operational Support:
- Enable effective collaboration, integration and communication with leadership, Wells, RCC, and Subsurface staff for well planning and execution.
- Help communicate uncertainty, ranges, and confidence levels to support resilient well designs.
- Participate in offset well and PPFG reviews, assurance checkpoints, and execution support forums.
- Provide PPFG and geomechanics input across the full well lifecycle.
- Support integration of PPFG and geomechanics outputs into casing design, mud weight selection, and wellbore strengthening strategies.
- Support SPAs with pre-drill PPFG Prediction.
- Support SPAs with PPFG Detection and real-time interpretation for selected or complex wells.
- Provide Self-Verification of ROC PPFG desk through oversight and driving consistency.
- Contribute to investigations and learning from subsurface-related NPT events due to losses or well control.
Capability & Continuous Improvement:
- Create & maintain PPFG and Zonal Isolation-related guides
- Build, teach and maintain relevant technical courses
- Coach and mentor global PPFG & geomechanics staff.
- Share findings and best practices within the PPFG & Geomechanics community through relevant CoPs and ConneXus.
- Leads SMEs in federal efforts within the PPFG/Geomechanics community.
- Maintain internal and external view of relevant practices, tools and technologies.

- Influences well decisions through clear, credible technical advice.
- Escalates appropriately when subsurface risk exceeds experience or tolerance.

Essential Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree or higher in Geoscience, Geomechanics, or related field.
- Typically 15+ years of relevant experience in PPFG and/or geomechanics.
- Deep experience in geoscience and demonstrated experience supporting well planning and execution activities across numerous geological settings and operating environments.
- Ability to flex style between providing operations support, coaching staff, remaining calm under pressure, and maintaining an independent technical view.
- Deep understanding of drilling operations, well design, and subsurface assurance.
- Strong interpersonal skills with track record in coaching/supporting junior staff?
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting complex development or exploration wells.
- Exposure to real-time drilling support and pressure detection.
- Familiarity with basin modelling, fault/fracture analysis, and reservoir geomechanics.
- Proficiency with subsurface software (e.g. Petrel, Techlog).
