Planning and Purchasing Specialist (Danville, VA)

Position:

As a Planning and Purchasing Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring materials are available when needed to support efficient and uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

You will coordinate materials planning and purchasing activities, manage short- and long-term Material Requirements Planning (MRP), optimize inventory levels, collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams, and support new product launches and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities:

- Materials Planning & Inventory Management: Manage short-, mid-, and long-term material requirements for tobacco and non-tobacco materials, considering demand, specifications, inventory targets, sourcing, lead times, and shelf life. Optimize inventory levels and minimize material write-offs.

- Purchasing & Delivery Coordination: Manage purchase orders, supplier confirmations, delivery follow-up, and purchasing data in SAP. Support timely material availability, accurate shipping documentation, and resolution of invoice and goods receipt issues.

- Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with suppliers and internal teams, including Planning, R&D, Global Procurement, GBS, Finance, Quality, Production, and Warehouse, to resolve supply and purchasing issues and support smooth operations.

- New Product Launches & Projects: Coordinate material readiness for new launches, factory tests, and global and local material projects. Identify opportunities for cost optimization and improved inventory management.

- Quality & Supplier Management: Coordinate the resolution of defective materials with suppliers, follow up on corrective and preventive actions, and arrange supplier technical support when required.

- Systems, Continuous Improvement & Compliance: Maintain accurate SAP material master data, support monthly planning activities in IBP, continuously improve processes, and ensure compliance with applicable safety, quality, company, and regulatory requirements.

Requirements:

- University degree, preferably in Supply Chain, Business, or a related field.

- At least 2 years of experience in a planning or procurement function; cross-functional experience is an advantage.

- Fluent English, both written and spoken.

- Strong communication and organizational skills.

- Flexible and able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.

- Strong Microsoft Office skills, including advanced Excel .

- SAP system knowledge.
