Job Description:
Experienced, hands-on that support our R&D mechanical development and prototyping activities.
The role focuses on metal fabrication, welding, mechanical structures, assembly fixtures, and prototype mechanisms. The position works closely with the Mechanical Engineering team to rapidly turn concepts and designs into functional prototypes and test systems.
The ideal candidate is a highly skilled fabricator with strong practical mechanical capabilities, creativity, and the ability to solve mechanical challenges in a fast-paced R&D environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and modify mechanical prototypes based on engineering designs, drawings, and concepts.
- Perform metal fabrication, including cutting, welding, grinding, drilling, bending, and fitting.
- Fabricate frames, structures, brackets, and other mechanical assemblies.
- Design and build assembly jigs, fixtures, and test setups.
- Build and modify mechanical mechanisms and prototype assemblies.
- Work closely with Mechanical Engineers during development, providing practical manufacturing and fabrication input.
- Support rapid prototype iterations, modifications, and troubleshooting.
- Support general prototype-building activities in the R&D workshop.
- Operate and maintain welding, metalworking, and fabrication equipment.
- Take responsibility for the proper condition, organization, and safe operation of the metal fabrication equipment and work area.
- Support preparation and modification of mechanical equipment for laboratory and field testing.
Qualifications
- Strong hands-on experience in metal fabrication and mechanical prototype building.
- Professional experience with welding, grinding, cutting, drilling, bending, and mechanical assembly.
- Ability to build mechanical structures, fixtures, jigs, and mechanisms.
- Ability to work from engineering drawings, sketches, and early-stage concepts.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to independently determine practical fabrication methods and solutions.
- High level of craftsmanship, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Organized, responsible, and safety-oriented.
- Ability to work closely with engineers and other workshop technicians in a multidisciplinary R&D environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in an R&D, prototype, or custom fabrication workshop – an advantage.
- Experience building one-off mechanical systems and rapid prototypes – an advantage.
- Experience with robotic, electromechanical, or industrial systems – an advantage.
- Formal training or certification in welding, metal fabrication, machining, or a related technical field – an advantage.
