Job Title: Petroleum Engineer II (Well Management Engineer – RTP & PA)
Compensation: $120/hr; flexibility based on experience
Location: Midland, TX — 3617 N Big Spring St; onsite, full-time
Schedule: 5/2, Monday–Friday; approximately 7am–5pm, with on-call support as needed. Listed hours: 8 hours/day and 40–50 hours/week.
Contract Duration: One year, renewed annually
Scope
- Design, plan, and provide engineering execution support to post-completion wellwork operations, including remedial workovers and plug and abandonment.
- Liaise with Production Engineering to provide cost estimates and scope for opportunity evaluation.
- Develop procedures and provide design input for artificial lift systems.
- Interface with Operations for rig scheduling, execution support, and troubleshooting.
- Liaise with specialist contractors and suppliers regarding costs and equipment readiness.
- Monitor daily wellwork progress, track daily costs, and recommend cost-effective changes when necessary. Travel to company-designated sites as needed.
- Support wellwork spend forecasting and budget preparation.
- Track, analyze, and continually improve wellwork execution efficiency; manage contractor performance and steward WellView data quality.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum of five years of oil and gas experience, including at least three years of direct wellwork experience.
- Self-motivated and capable of integrating within multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to travel to well locations to oversee operations when necessary.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and WellView.
Preferred Experience
- Candidates already based in Midland are preferred.
- Wellwork, operations, and plug and abandonment (P&A) engineering experience is strongly preferred.
- Permian Basin wellwork experience.
- Strong preference for direct experience working for an operator, such as PNR, EOG, OXY, Diamondback, Endeavor, or Permian, over service company experience such as Halliburton, SLB, Baker, or ProPetro.
- Specifically seeking hands-on wellwork experience in workovers and completions, rather than drilling or frac.
- Exposure to Spotfire, Power BI, or other analytics tools.
