Company Overview: San Antonio Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is a 198-bed, acute-care psychiatric and substance abuse treatment facility located in the Northwest San Antonio Medical Center. Our highly trained team of behavioral health professionals are dedicated to providing compassionate, individualized, and trauma-informed care for our patients.

Job Summary: We are seeking a Behavioral Health Family Liaison to join our team. The Behavioral Health Family Advocate is a professional who supports families navigating mental health, trauma, or behavioral challenges by communicating with them through their loved one’s care, explaining treatment processes, and ensuring their rights are protected.

Responsibilities:

· Calls family/guardian to establish expectations for care and treatment

· Acts as a mediator between families and providers, nursing staff, clinical staff, and discharge staff ensuring the family's voice and rights are respected

· Act as a formal liaison when a family feels their loved one is not receiving proper care, helping them submit complaints or request alternative treatments

· Provide a calm, non-judgmental space for families to vent their fears, frustrations, or guilt regarding their loved one's condition

· Develop and lead family support groups and educational workshops on coping strategies and mental health recovery

· Navigate strict HIPAA and confidentiality boundaries by explaining to families what information can or cannot be shared, and helping them obtain necessary release forms

· Maintain thorough case files, assess ongoing family needs, and track progress toward stabilization

· Perform other duties as per the requirements of the organization.

Requirements

Minimum High School Diploma or GED. Associates or Bachelor’s degree in social services or another related field preferred.

One year experience in a mental healthcare setting; direct practice in inpatient or outpatient mental health treatment and experience in crisis intervention and customer service preferred. Bi-lingual English/Spanish preferred but not required.

Additional Requirements:

Must possess or obtain a valid CPR certification and de-escalation training before completing new hire orientation.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

· Understanding mental illness, developmental needs, and substance use disorders, along with their impact on individuals and family dynamics

· Exceptional active listening, person-first language, and verbal clarity to bridge gaps between families and clinical providers

· The ability to build trust across diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds while honoring a family's unique lived experience

· Project and time management skills

· Organizational skills

· Proven expertise solving problems

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other related software to perform necessary tasks with common office programs

Physical Requirements:

· Stationary Position: Substantial time spent sitting at a desk and operating a computer.

· Office Mobility: Ability to walk, reach, and move around an office environment.

· Lifting/Carrying: Occasional, light lifting, usually limited to 10–25 lbs.
