Performs a multitude of receptionist duties upon greeting patients that arrive for diagnostic testing. Good customer service skills, organizational abilities, prioritizing and patience are key elements necessary for providing clerical support for the department, in a fast paced setting.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Roles and Responsibilities

- Greets patients in a courteous and helpful manner. Verifies patient identification.
- Provides patients with instructions for signatures and changing rooms, as needed.
- Informs patients of waiting areas and waiting times if applicable.
- Answers patient questions to the best of their ability or seeks assistance to assure satisfactory answer.
- Answers incoming phone calls in courteous and helpful manner. Takes an accurate message and provides follow-up as needed.
- Accurately and quickly comprehends all types of requests.
- Assembles and prepares patient information to assure accuracy of documentation and presence of radiology request. Accurately inputs required information into computer order entry fields.
- Responds to customers’ (patient, physician, offices, families) questions in a timely manner and provides assistance as needed to maximize customer satisfaction.
- Communicates related concerns or issues to appropriate staff individual(s).
- Assist in film/report loan requests and retrieval as necessary.
- Demonstrates ability to reprint patient exams to include film, CD and paper media.
- ABN functions (i.e. selecting appropriate ICD 9 code or seeks assistance)
- Scans orders into PACS system
- Obtain necessary billing information.
- Organizes documentation and paperwork for future needs and assists with intra-departmental communications. Assumes responsibility when needed to coordinate open shift coverage due to sick calls, etc.
- Matches patient identification with correct patient in Meditech
- Procures replacement patient orders which are missing/incorrect
- Knowledge of registration function to complete when patient registration is closed (If warranted, as determined by clerical supervisor, cross-training maybe required to perform this function)
- Schedules of biopsy procedures (If warranted, as determined by clerical supervisor, cross-training maybe required to perform this function)
- Provides coverage at satellite imaging offices as scheduled. (If warranted, as determined by clerical supervisor, cross-training maybe required to perform this function)
- Competently uses all required software and equipment
- Displays tact and courtesy in high anxiety situations and remains calm and collected
- Maintains high level of energy and enthusiasm for work. Demonstrates the ability to work as a team player Exercises initiative seeking additional tasks from supervisor or coworkers when time permits.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Required Skills Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Communication:

Must possess verbal and written skills to communicate effectively and courteously with a diverse group of professional and non-professional members of the health care team, patients and family/significant others.

Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook applications. Familiarity with Meditech registration module, Microsoft PowerPoint and Access a plus.

Minimum Education

Must be a high school graduate.

Minimum Work Experience

Previous secretarial experience, preferably in a health care setting.

Pay Range:
$19.05 - $25.64

The pay range listed for this position is the base hourly wage range the organization reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position at this time. Actual compensation is determined based on several factors, that may include seniority, education, training, relevant experience, relevant certifications, geography of work location, job responsibilities, or other applicable factors permissible by law.  Compensation may exceed the base hourly rate depending on shift differentials, call pay, premium pay, overtime pay, and other additional pay practices, as applicable to the position and in accordance with the law.
