About this role
Who we are
About Stripe
Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.
About the team
Operator Tooling builds software that helps Stripe’s operations teams spend less time on manual processes and more time on the work that needs their expertise. We replace spreadsheets, unstructured email chains, and repetitive tasks with tools that make operational work easier to manage and track.
What you’ll do
You’ll build and improve the platforms Stripe’s operations teams use to manage their work. Working across backend systems, you’ll turn complex operational needs into reliable tools and integrations, partnering directly with internal users to understand their workflows and improve their experience.
Responsibilities
- Own problems from end to end, managing complexity and working directly with stakeholders to understand business impact, reliability, and operability
- Contribute to the product roadmap, help shape the team’s vision and strategy, and act as a sounding board for team leadership
- Uphold Stripe’s high standards for engineering and product quality
- Mentor newer team members and help them develop their engineering skills
- Work with stakeholders across Stripe to understand competing needs and balance priorities
Who you are
We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.
Minimum requirements
- 3+ years of software engineering experience
- Comfort working across backend systems, with an understanding of the full software development lifecycle, from design and implementation to testing and deployment
- Ability to write high-quality, thoroughly tested code with clear documentation and appropriate production observability, following best practices in engineering, security, and design
- Empathy for internal and external users and a commitment to improving their experience
- Proven ability to integrate different services and processes, including those you haven’t worked with before
Preferred qualifications
- Proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Ruby, Java, Python, or Go; we value general engineering skills more than knowledge of a particular language or framework, and languages can be learned on the job
- Knowledge of distributed systems patterns and principles
