Meritus Health is seeking a detail-oriented Tumor Registrar to support its cancer program through accurate medical record abstraction, cancer case identification, data analysis, and regulatory reporting. This role is responsible for maintaining the quality and efficiency of the Tumor Registry, ensuring compliance with applicable cancer program standards, and providing critical information to support research, patient care evaluations, and cancer program planning.

The Tumor Registrar works closely with oncology leadership, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to maintain accurate cancer registry data and support the activities of the Cancer Committee and tumor board.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

- Identify and monitor cancer cases diagnosed and/or treated at Meritus Medical Center in accordance with applicable cancer registry standards.

- Abstract medical records and ensure accurate cancer staging, follow-up, and timely data submissions.

- Maintain the accuracy, completeness, and accessibility of Tumor Registry information.

- Ensure compliance with applicable American College of Surgeons (ACoS) standards and other regulatory and professional requirements.

- Research and document cancer cases requiring abstraction, coordinating data collection with participating physician offices and other healthcare providers.

- Coordinate case scheduling and preparation for tumor boards and cancer care conferences, including meeting minutes and follow-up monitoring.

- Provide statistical and administrative support to the Cancer Program and Cancer Committee.

- Assist with patient care evaluations, audits, annual reporting, and required program documentation.

- Support data entry and completion of required cancer program reports, including SAR/PAR.

- Collaborate with physicians, ancillary departments, and oncology leadership to support cancer program quality and effectiveness.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

- Associate degree in an allied health field.

- Completion of approved coursework in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and disease processes.

Experience

- Two years of experience in medical records or an allied health field.

Licensure/Certification

- Oncology Data Specialist - Certified (ODS-C)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- Strong knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

- Ability to analyze detailed medical records and abstract data according to established guidelines.

- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.

- Ability to concentrate for extended periods while managing distractions.

- Effective communication and collaboration skills when working with medical staff and ancillary departments.

- Ability to manage deadlines and maintain accurate documentation in accordance with applicable standards.
