Full-Time | Evening & Weekend Schedule
Meritus Health is seeking a Full-Time Nurse Practitioner to join our growing Urgent Care team at the Meritus Xpress Lane Clinic in Hagerstown, Maryland.
This is an excellent opportunity for a confident and clinically skilled Nurse Practitioner who enjoys a fast-paced, patient-centered environment and providing high-quality care when patients need it most.
The Meritus Xpress Lane Clinic provides convenient after-hours care for patients with urgent illnesses and injuries. The clinic operates Monday through Friday from 5:00 PM–1:00 AM and Saturday and Sunday from 12:00 PM–8:00 PM , providing an important alternative to the emergency department for non-life-threatening conditions.
Position Highlights
- Full-Time Nurse Practitioner opportunity
- Evening-focused Urgent Care practice
- Weekday hours: 5:00 PM–1:00 AM
- Weekend hours: 12:00 PM–8:00 PM
- Walk-in patient population with a broad range of acute illnesses and injuries
- Evaluate, diagnose, and treat patients across the lifespan
- Perform common Urgent Care procedures, including:
Suturing and laceration repair
- Fracture evaluation and splinting
- Incision and drainage (I&D)
- Treatment of sprains, strains, and other minor injuries
- Work collaboratively with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, and clinical support staff
- Opportunity to provide meaningful care to patients during evening and weekend hours
Clinical Practice
As a Nurse Practitioner in Urgent Care, you will evaluate and manage patients presenting with a variety of acute medical conditions and minor injuries.
Common conditions may include:
- Respiratory illnesses
- Sinus pressure and infections
- Sore throats
- Ear infections
- Fever
- Allergic reactions
- Rashes
- Pink eye
- Insect bites and stings
- Minor aches, sprains, and strains
- Lacerations and other minor injuries
- Mild-to-moderate asthma
- Minor fractures and other musculoskeletal injuries
The Xpress Lane Clinic provides convenient walk-in care for patients who need medical attention outside traditional primary care hours.
What You'll Do
- Perform comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations
- Evaluate, diagnose, and develop treatment plans for acute illnesses and injuries
- Order and interpret appropriate diagnostic testing
- Prescribe medications and provide patient education
- Perform minor office-based procedures
- Provide fracture care and splinting
- Perform laceration repair and incision and drainage procedures
- Recognize conditions requiring a higher level of care and appropriately refer or transfer patients
- Document patient encounters accurately in the electronic health record
- Communicate effectively with patients and their families
- Collaborate with physicians and other members of the healthcare team
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based care while maintaining a positive patient experience
Minimum Qualifications
Education
- Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program required.
- Doctorate in Nursing preferred.
Experience
- One year of experience as a Nurse Practitioner preferred.
- Urgent Care, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, or other acute-care experience preferred.
Licensure & Certification
- Current Nurse Practitioner license/authorization to practice in the State of Maryland required.
- Current national board certification as a Nurse Practitioner through an appropriate recognized certifying body required.
- Current DEA Registration required.
- Current CDS permit required.
- Current BLS/CPR certification in compliance with Meritus Health policy required.
- ACLS certification in compliance with Meritus Health policy required.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates strong clinical judgment and critical-thinking skills.
- Demonstrates clinical competence and the ability to independently evaluate and manage patients.
- Comfortable performing common Urgent Care procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with physicians, Advanced Practice Providers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of case management, outcomes management, and managed care.
- Proficiency with ICD-10 and CPT coding, or willingness to acquire proficiency.
- Proficiency with EPIC preferred.
- Comfortable using electronic health records and other clinical technology.
