Nestled in the small town of Davis California, El Macero Country Club delivers a unique property with challenging treelined bermudagrass fairways, cool-season roughs and bent-poa greens. El Macero Country Club is privately owned with management guidance from Troon Golf and hosts many NCGA events, US Open Qualifiers, and the UC Davis Aggies golf Team.
Summary
As a key member of the property's golf course maintenance team, the Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and assists with the day-to-day oversight of the maintenance and agronomic practices of the golf course and adjacent grounds, including but not limited to the clubhouse landscaping and maintenance of the complex. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in the Superintendents capacity during his/her absence.
Position Responsibilities
- Assists in planning and supervising for the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, roughs, and greens; performs maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning and caring for landscape.
- Responsible for daily golf course set up and presentation. Monitors irrigation functionality participates in hand watering, daily system audits.
- Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment.
- Supervised operations of golf course grounds crew to ensure proper procedures are completed and drive a fast pace in operational workflow while keeping safety as a top priority.
- A thorough understating of calibration and proper use of various fertilizers, herbicides, pest control methods and materials is required.
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.
- Prepare clear and concise reports, uphold records, and maintain effective employee and public relations with industry professionals and members.
- Supervise and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, wells, irrigation system, reverse osmosis water treatment facility and drainage network.
- May require current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.
- Assists in personnel management and evaluations, employee safety, personnel discipline, payroll and may modify the daily work schedule of direct reports based on professional interpretation.
- Employee may perform other related duties to meet the ongoing needs of the company as directed by the supervisors
Qualifications, Knowledge and Skill Requirements
- 3+ years of turf grass management experience preferred
- Supervisory experience required
- A four-year college degree preferred, but not required
- GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred but not required
- Knowledge of budgeting and expense management
- Must possess basic computer skills- Word and Excel
- Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business
- Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail
- Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Must possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills
