What you will do

Johnson Controls is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer with hands-on laboratory expertise and a passion for driving product innovation to join our Fire Suppression Sustaining Engineering team. In this high-impact role, you will play a critical part in enhancing and extending the life of industry-leading fire suppression products. You'll tackle complex engineering challenges, lead product improvements and redesign initiatives, resolve technical issues, ensure compliance with evolving industry standards, and optimize product performance, reliability, and longevity. This position is based onsite at our Cranston, RI, engineering facility. Candidates must commuting distance to the office, or able to relocate. Various relocation packages are available. Only US Citizens and/or Permanent Residents of the US will be considered for this role.

How you will do it

- Product lifecycle support, product improvement, product deficiencies/field issues and maintain product approvals.
- Create detailed designs and prototypes, ensuring compliance with international standards.
- Conduct feasibility, stress, thermal, and fluid analyses to support design decisions.
- Maintain thorough documentation in accordance with ISO and internal quality standards.
- Support experimental test programs and prototype development.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Manufacturing, Quality management, Project/Product management, Sourcing and Approval agencies.
- Work with Manufacturing, Sourcing and Product management in developing new and/or modified component design.
- Collecting and analyzing data from operational processes, tests, and research experiments. Evaluate, test and provide reports for all product field returns.
- Ensure timely execution of tasks in alignment with stage-gate development milestones.
- Analyze product and equipment specifications to guide design direction.
- Apply engineering principles, mathematics, and physical sciences to solve complex problems.
- Provide technical insights on the design, materials, processes, and manufacturability.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends and global regulatory requirements.  Coordinate and lead design reviews, test plans, and project meetings.
- Ensure accountability and timely progress through each stage of the product lifecycle.

What you will need
Required

- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
- Hands-on lab experience collaborating with technicians.
- Experience with the full product development lifecycle, including prototyping and testing.
- Ability to strategize test plans without predefined protocols.
- US Citizen and/or Permanent Resident of the US

Preferred

- Background in automotive, heating or other regulated industries.
- Familiarity with 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, etc.).
- Understanding of stage-gate methodologies and time-sensitive project execution.

HIRING SALARY RANGE: $100,000 - $135,000 (Salary to be determined by the education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities of the applicant, internal equity, and alignment with market data.) This position includes a competitive benefits package. The posted salary range reflects the target compensation for this role.
