A Brief Overview
The Tax Director will play a critical role in supporting Children's Hospital of Philadelphia's (CHOP's) tax compliance and tax strategy functions. Reporting directly to the Senior Director of Treasury, Tax, and Disbursements, this role ensures accurate and timely preparation of tax filings, monitors compliance with nonprofit-specific regulations, and provides guidance on tax implications for new and current state and federal initiatives. The Tax Director will also be responsible for developing a high performing team that will help support CHOP's Hospital, Research, Practice Plans, Foundation, and Corporate Services to develop and optimize tax-related processes, ensure compliance, and mitigate risk.
This position requires strong technical expertise in nonprofit tax regulations, experience working across multi-state tax jurisdictions, excellent analytical skills, strong verbal and written communication skills, comfort with technology, and experience establishing standard processes and managing complex projects in a dynamic healthcare environment.

What you will do
- Develop and execute CHOP’s enterprise tax strategy, ensuring alignment with organizational priorities and long term financial objectives.
- Serve as the primary liaison with external tax advisors, auditors, and governmental agencies regarding tax matters.
- Ensure compliance with IRS Form 990 and other nonprofit-specific reporting requirements.
- Prepare and file state sales tax exemption for the various entities of the CHOP Enterprise and monitor changes in state and federal tax laws and regulations, assessing impact on CHOP operations and advising leadership
- Evaluate tax implications of new business initiatives, partnerships, and service lines, with particular attention paid to Unrelated Business Taxable Income (UBTI).
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and performance management for future tax team members.
- Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors to address tax-related issues and ensure accurate reporting.
- Provide guidance to CHOP’s Disbursements departments on tax-related matters, ensuring alignment with organizational goals. Ensure compliance with federal, state and local payroll and sales taxes.
- Develop and maintain tax policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree accounting, tax or finance - Required
- Master's Degree accounting, tax or finance - Preferred
Experience Qualifications
- At least ten (10) years Not for Profit related Tax work experience - Required
Skills and Abilities
- Deep understanding of tax regulations, and nonprofit financial operations (Required proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA) - State Issued - upon hire - Preferred

SALARY RANGE:
$100,000.00 - $375,000.00 Annually
Salary ranges are shown for full-time jobs. If you're working part-time, your pay will be adjusted accordingly.
