ABOUT THE ROLE:

The Senior Electrical Engineer – Project will assist in the design, construction, and commissioning of a new state-of- the-art facility. In this role, you will lead the electrical engineering scope across all phases of the construction project from design review and procurement support through site installation, testing, and system startup. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in industrial power systems, process controls, deep knowledge of national electrical and building codes, and proven experience managing complex, large-scale construction projects. Problems faced are difficult and complex requiring advanced problem-solving skills. Travel will be required, as necessary, to visit equipment suppliers and to the site to assist with installation, commissioning, and start-up of infrastructure and process equipment.

WHAT YOU'LL ACCOMPLISH:

- Review, evaluate, and approve electrical engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, and specifications for medium- and low-voltage distribution systems, control systems, and grounding.

- Direct and oversee electrical contractors on-site to ensure installation aligns with engineering designs, quality standards, project schedules, and safety protocols.

- Ensure full compliance with all local, national, and international electrical codes (e.g., NEC/NFPA 70), building codes, OSHA standards, and plant safety requirements (e.g., NFPA 70E).

- Manage electrical scopes using project tools including Procore for submittals, RFIs, design revisions, and field updates.

- Develop and execute field inspection protocols, testing programs, and commissioning procedures for main electrical equipment (transformers, switchgear, VFDs, MCCs, and backup power systems).

- Serve as the primary electrical engineering liaison between internal capital project managers, external EPC partners, equipment vendors, and municipal inspectors.

- Design and layout plant electrical infrastructure, including utility interconnect coordination, medium-voltage substations, power factor correction, harmonic mitigation, grounding grids, and emergency generator/UPS backup systems.

- Design and develop plant process control scheme, including PLC/PAC architectures, SCADA/HMI integration, coordinated multi-drive web systems, tension controls, and industrial field networks (EtherNet/IP, PROFINET).

- Create and execute the plant commissioning plan, leading Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) at vendor facilities, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), cold I/O dry runs, and hot continuous operational trials.

- Train operators and supervision on the proper operation of equipment and processes.

- Develop maintenance documentation and train the newly hired maintenance team, including as-built drawing handovers, equipment maintenance manuals, critical spare parts lists, and preventative maintenance schedules.

- Support development and implement action plans for continuous improvements and cost savings.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:

Education:

- Bachelor’s Degree

Field of Study Preferred:

- Engineering or a related technical field, preferred degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering from an ABET-accredited University.

Required Work Experience:

- 10 or more years of electrical and/or controls engineering or plant manufacturing experience in related construction or manufacturing industries (heavy industrial, continuous processing, or large-scale capital projects).

- Demonstrated field experience managing electrical contractors from rough-in through energization, testing, and full plant startup.

Required Computer and Software Skills:

- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and statistical analysis tools like Minitab.

- Working knowledge of AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical; familiarity with power modeling tools (ETAP, SKM Power*Tools, or EasyPower) is beneficial.

- Experience working with Procore or similar project management software.

- Experience with industrial automation and control platforms (e.g., Rockwell Automation Studio 5000 / FactoryTalk, Siemens TIA Portal).

Certifications & Licenses:

- Project Management certification (PMP) is a plus.

- Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.

Travel Requirements:

- Occasional travel to supplier sites for equipment reviews and Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT).

- Regular travel to or relocation to the project site in Alabama.

Additional Requirements:

- Demonstrate outstanding organizational skills with the ability to manage competing project priorities.

- Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively coordinate across diversebteams and contractors.

- Work well under pressure to meet project deadlines.

- Must have deep familiarity with local, state, and national electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEEE) and building/construction codes.

- Thorough understanding of site safety regulations, arc flash hazard analysis, and lockout/tagout (LOTO) protocols.

- Show high levels of commitment to detail.

- Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

- Solid understanding of manufacturing processes and materials, especially plastic mixing, extrusion, and calendering for membranes.

- Project management skills, including planning, scheduling, and managing budgets.

- Familiarity with capital projects including engineering and construction is a plus.

- Lift/move/transport items up to 50 pounds.

- Ability to move or traverse about the facilities.

- Must be able to ascend/descend stairs or ladders.

- Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Amrize approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE").
