role
We are seeking a Manufacturing ERP & Job Costing Subject Matter Expert (SME) to serve as the functional expert connecting our manufacturing operations, financial processes, and IQMS ERP environment.
This individual must have a strong understanding of discrete manufacturing, job-shop manufacturing, and manufacturing cost accounting processes . The successful candidate will understand not simply how to operate an ERP system, but how manufacturing activity is structured within an ERP and how the resulting transactions ultimately accumulate into the total cost of a manufacturing job .
The SME will develop deep expertise in IQMS (DELMIAWorks) and will be accountable for understanding how manufacturing processes are configured within the system—including work centers, labor, machine rates, materials, purchasing, outside processing, overhead, and their relationship to the General Ledger.
This position reports to the Director of Applications and will work closely with manufacturing, finance/accounting, engineering, purchasing, and other operational teams.
Core Responsibilities:
Manufacturing ERP & Cost Flow
Develop a detailed understanding of how manufacturing costs originate, are captured, and ultimately accumulate against individual jobs.
The SME will be expected to understand and support cost flows including:
- Direct labor and labor burden
- Machine and work-center costs
- Raw materials and purchased components
- Outside processing and subcontracted services
- Purchase orders associated with manufacturing jobs
- Manufacturing overhead and burden
- Scrap, rework, and other job-related costs
- Inventory transactions and material consumption
- Work-in-process (WIP)
- Finished job costing
- Estimated versus actual costs
- Financial postings associated with manufacturing transactions
The individual should be capable of tracing a manufacturing transaction from the shop floor through the ERP system and ultimately into the appropriate financial/GL accounts .
Work Centers & Manufacturing Configuration
Understand and support the configuration of manufacturing resources within IQMS, including:
- Creation and maintenance of work centers
- Machine and labor rates
- Work-center cost structures
- Labor classifications and associated costs
- Manufacturing routings and operations
- Standard and actual costing methodologies
- Overhead and burden allocation
- Relationships between manufacturing transactions and GL accounts
- Outside processing and vendor-related costs
- Purchasing and material transactions associated with jobs
The SME will help ensure that ERP configuration accurately represents how manufacturing work is performed and how costs should be captured.
Job Costing
Serve as a functional expert for the complete cost lifecycle of a manufacturing job.
The SME should be able to answer questions such as:
What did this job actually cost us, why did it cost that amount, and where did each component of that cost originate?
This includes understanding how estimates, routings, labor transactions, machine utilization, material consumption, purchasing, outside processing, overhead, and accounting transactions combine to produce the final cost of a job.
The SME will work with manufacturing and finance teams to identify and resolve discrepancies between expected costs, ERP-reported costs, and actual manufacturing activity.
IQMS / DELMIAWorks Expertise
Develop and maintain a high level of functional expertise in IQMS / DELMIAWorks manufacturing software .
Responsibilities will include:
- Understanding IQMS manufacturing and costing functionality
- Supporting configuration and process improvements
- Troubleshooting manufacturing and costing issues
- Testing system changes
- Supporting upgrades and enhancements
- Establishing ERP best practices
- Documenting system configuration and business processes
- Serving as an internal escalation point for manufacturing ERP questions
Prior IQMS experience is strongly preferred; however, candidates with significant experience in comparable manufacturing ERP platforms may be considered if they demonstrate the ability to quickly develop IQMS expertise.
Data Management & Integration
Understand and support methods for moving manufacturing and business data into and out of IQMS, including:
- Data imports and exports
- Structured file transfers
- Spreadsheet-based data loads
- Master-data conversion and validation
- Data mapping
- Data cleanup and reconciliation
- Interfaces between ERP and other business or manufacturing systems
The SME does not necessarily need to be a software developer but must understand how data is structured, transferred, validated, and reconciled between systems.
Training & User Support
Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable resource for ERP users throughout the organization.
Responsibilities include:
- Training manufacturing and business users
- Explaining ERP processes in practical manufacturing terms
- Developing work instructions and training materials
- Supporting new ERP functionality and process changes
- Helping users understand not only how to perform transactions, but why those transactions matter downstream
- Reinforcing data quality and ERP process discipline
The successful candidate must be comfortable communicating with employees ranging from shop-floor personnel and supervisors to accounting, engineering, and senior management.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on manufacturing ERP experience in a discrete, job-shop, engineer-to-order, tool-and-die, mold-making, machining, or similar manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing job costing and cost accumulation .
- Demonstrated understanding of how labor, machine/work-center, material, purchasing, outside processing, and overhead costs are captured against manufacturing jobs.
- Experience configuring or supporting work centers, routings, labor reporting, purchasing, inventory, and manufacturing costing within an ERP system.
- Working understanding of the relationship between manufacturing transactions and the General Ledger .
- Experience investigating and reconciling manufacturing cost discrepancies.
- Understanding of ERP data import/export methodologies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to train and support manufacturing ERP users.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with IQMS / DELMIAWorks .
- Experience in mold making, tool and die, precision machining, or engineered-to-order manufacturing.
- Manufacturing cost accounting experience.
- Experience with ERP implementations, conversions, or significant system upgrades.
- Experience with ERP master-data management and data migration.
- Familiarity with manufacturing financial controls, WIP, inventory valuation, and GL integration.
- Experience improving ERP processes in an established manufacturing operation.
What Success Looks Like
The Manufacturing ERP & Job Costing SME becomes the organization's go-to functional expert for how manufacturing activity is represented and costed within IQMS .
When questions arise about the cost of a mold or manufacturing job, this individual should be able to trace that cost through the system—from the employee reporting labor, the machine or work center performing the operation, the material consumed, or the purchase order issued to an outside vendor, through the associated ERP transactions and ultimately to the financial accounts.
The objective is to ensure that every meaningful cost associated with a manufacturing job is captured accurately, consistently, and transparently , giving operations and management confidence in both job profitability and the underlying ERP data.
