Job Title: Field Engineer Job Description
The Field Engineer supports front-line field management for complex commercial construction projects in the Southwest region, with a primary focus on a large semiconductor campus. This full-time role reports to the Superintendent and centers on project layout, coordination of trade partners, safety, and quality control. The Field Engineer spends most of the time in the field, with some responsibilities in the field office, helping ensure projects meet design, schedule, and cost objectives.
Responsibilities
- Perform project layout and surveying in strict conformance with design and contract documents.
- Verify concrete forms for accuracy, adequacy of construction, and correct placement of all embedded items prior to concrete placement.
- Conduct production trend analysis for quantities of work in place and provide data for weekly and monthly schedule and cost control reports.
- Assist with quality control activities and support site safety initiatives as delegated by the project superintendent.
- Coordinate trade partners in the field and, when assigned, direct a small workforce to build supervisory experience.
- Plan and coordinate material deliveries by reviewing material requirements in advance and comparing them with delivery status.
- Inspect delivered materials for quantity, quality, and condition, and promptly report missing or damaged items.
- Support foremen and trade partners by interpreting plans and specifications and clarifying design intent as needed.
- Oversee assigned trade partners and direct workforces, such as labor crews, to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality execution.
- Participate in jobsite safety meetings, weekly safety audits, and other safety-related activities to promote a strong safety culture.
- Collaborate with the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team on scope, execution plans, and deliverables related to field operations.
- Review and navigate the current 3D model viewing and scheduling software to support layout, coordination, and planning.
- Work closely with the Superintendent and project team in both the field and field office to support overall project delivery.
Essential Skills
- At least 1 year of experience as a Field Engineer (FE) or Project Engineer (PE) in commercial construction.
- A 4-year degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management.
- Experience with construction management and field engineering on commercial construction projects, such as semiconductor or data center facilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel-based templates.
- Ability to read, understand, and interpret construction plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Strong coordination skills for working with trade partners, foremen, and field crews.
- Solid written and verbal communication skills for effective interaction with project teams and trade partners.
- Valid drivers license for travel to and from job sites, as required.
- Demonstrated commitment to jobsite safety and quality control.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working with general contractors on large commercial, semiconductor, or data center projects.
- Familiarity with ProjectSight or similar construction project management software.
- Experience with Primavera or comparable scheduling software.
- Experience with Autodesk tools and 3D model viewing platforms to support VDC-related field operations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with a VDC team on execution plans and model-based coordination.
- Interest in developing supervisory skills by directing small workforces or labor crews.
- Strong organizational skills for managing material deliveries, documentation, and reporting.
- Ability to perform production trend analysis and support schedule and cost control reporting.
Work Environment
This role is based onsite at a large semiconductor campus in the Southwest region. The Field Engineer works primarily in the field on an active commercial construction site, with some time spent in the field office for planning, coordination, and reporting. The schedule is Monday through Friday, with approximately one Saturday per month, and one of the openings operates on a swing shift. The environment involves close collaboration with superintendents, trade partners, and VDC professionals, as well as regular participation in safety meetings and audits. The site uses modern construction technologies, including 3D model viewing and scheduling software, along with tools such as Microsoft Office, ProjectSight, Primavera, and Autodesk. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $78000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
