Job Summary and Responsibilities

As a Licensed Pharmacist Technician I you will perform a variety of activities related to prescription processing and daily pharmacy operations workflow for the specialty pharmacy. The Pharmacy Technician works in a highly regulated environment and must take care to abide by all state and federal regulations that relate to the practice of pharmacy including record keeping and infection prevention standards and will work in accordance with CommonSpirit Health and the specialty pharmacy policies and procedures. Pharmacy technicians are responsible for prescription data entry, insurance billing, preparation and filling of prescription medications, cashiering/customer service duties, and accurately performing pharmaceutical calculations, reconstitution and compounding of oral and topical dosage forms (if applicable).

Essential Functions Include:

- Contributes to the department’s safe and accurate operations by prioritizing and organizing daily work for optimal operations of pharmacy.

- Under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist, receives and enters prescriptions into the pharmacy management system.

- Verifies information on prescriptions for accuracy and provides notification to pharmacists for possible errors and drug/allergy contraindications.

- Identifies possible medication/prescription errors. Discusses error(s) with pharmacist on staff and PIC. Documents error in system-utilized error reporting tool.

- Conducts prescription order processing to include packaging, reconstituting, and compounding/flavoring (if applicable).

- Distributes medication to the patient/customer and collects payment; performs cashiering duties.

Job Requirements

Required

- One (1) year of retail pharmacy experience or equivalent

- Graduate of ASHP accredited pharmacy technician program, associate's degree, or equivalent experience

- Active Pharmacy Technician License in good standing in the state(s) in which the employee works, if required by state law

- Active CPT-EXCPT or CPT-PTCB or CPHT certification in good standing
