Industry: Applied AI / AI research data

Compensation: $130K-$200K base, $400K OTE

About the Company

Our partner is a fast-growing applied AI company that produces expert-level training data, reinforcement-learning environments, and agents for the world's leading frontier AI labs. They recently grew from under twenty people to more than fifty in a matter of months and have reached a nine-figure revenue run rate. Quality is their core differentiator, and they are rapidly expanding into new expert domains.

The Opportunity

As Senior Project Lead for the legal vertical, you will sit at the intersection of law, AI, and operations, defining what "correct" looks like in legal AI. You will partner directly with frontier AI labs to scope and deliver legal datasets and evaluations that improve how models reason about the law.

This is a client-facing, high-ownership role for a trained lawyer who is comfortable with data and AI tools and wants to apply real legal judgment to frontier model development. You will hit the ground running on a small, collaborative team.

Responsibilities

- Own legal-domain engagements with frontier AI lab researchers end to end, from scoping to delivery.
- Define quality standards and rubrics for what a correct legal answer looks like across practice areas.
- Translate lab requirements into clear specifications for legal datasets and evaluations.
- Recruit, guide, and quality-check a network of legal domain experts producing the data.
- Use data analysis and AI tools to review output, spot gaps, and improve throughput.
- Coordinate with engineering and operations teams to deliver on time and at a high bar.

Requirements

- JD or equivalent legal qualification.
- 3+ years practicing law at a leading firm, in-house at a sophisticated company, at a government or regulatory body, or at a legal AI startup.
- A substantive legal track record in drafting, negotiating, litigating, or advising, with deep command of legal reasoning and research methodology.
- Comfort working with data and AI tools.
- High agency in ambiguous environments and a competitive track record.
- A collaborative, humble, low-ego working style with strong client-facing skills.
- Bonus: Python or hands-on data analysis; legal technology, e-discovery, or contract analytics experience; technically demanding practice areas such as securities, antitrust, tax, or patent prosecution; multi-jurisdictional experience.
- Able to work onsite in San Francisco.
