About this role
Job Overview
The Sterile Processing Case Cart Transporter is responsible for the safe, timely, and accurate delivery and retrieval of surgical case carts between the Central Sterile Processing department and the surgical suites at Mary Bridge Children's Hospital and Tacoma General Hospital. You serve as the logistical bridge between the ORs and SPD, ensuring that surgeons have the exact sterile instruments they need for scheduled and emergency procedures, and that contaminated instruments are safely returned for reprocessing.
Core Responsibilities
1. Sterile Transport (Clean Side)
Case Cart Delivery: Transport fully assembled, closed case carts containing sterile instruments, wrapped trays, and surgical supplies from the sterile storage area to the designated ORs at either Mary Bridge or Tacoma General.
Emergency Requests: Respond rapidly to emergent requests for specific instruments or extra supplies during active surgeries at either facility.
Protecting Sterility: Ensure that carts are properly closed, secured, and navigated through clean corridors to prevent any compromise to the sterile packaging.
2. Soiled Retrieval (Decontamination Side)
Contaminated Cart Pick-up: Retrieve used case carts containing biohazardous, soiled instruments from the OR soiled utility rooms after procedures are completed.
Infection Control: Transport soiled carts back to the SPD Decontamination area following strict infection prevention protocols, utilizing designated "dirty" elevators and corridors to prevent cross-contamination.
Cart Wash Prep: Stage emptied case carts for the automated cart washers.
3. Cross-Campus Navigation
Route Efficiency: Navigate the complex interior corridors connecting Tacoma General (adult/general care) and Mary Bridge (pediatric care).
Schedule Coordination: Align transport runs with the daily surgical schedules of both hospitals, prioritizing urgent trauma cases (Tacoma General is a Level II Trauma Center, and Mary Bridge is a specialized pediatric center).
4. Inventory & Documentation
Scanning and Tracking: Use barcode scanners and tracking software (like SPM or Censitrac) to log the location of case carts as they leave SPD, arrive at the OR, and return to decontamination.
Stocking: Assist with restocking clean utility rooms and returning unused, sterile items from canceled cases back to proper SPD inventory.
Compensation / Pay Rate (Up to): $21.00 - $23.00
