About this role
Standard Job Description
Designs, develops, implements, verifies and tests algorithms to perform guidance, navigation and control of aircraft, spacecraft, launch vehicles and upper stages during powered and coast phases of flight, earth orbit, interplanetary cruise and orbital insertion, as well as during staging events. Navigation functions include the statistical processing of measured data points and their substitution into algorithms simulating physical reality. Guidance functions include the formulation of specific equations and control laws to achieve a desired position in space. Control design and analyses processes consist of the development of the control requirements for aircraft, launch vehicles and/or spacecraft.
About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) Engineer for the Space Based Interceptor (SBI) program. The role will perform technical execution scope associated with missile flight vehicle control system design, guidance and algorithm development, software integration, sensor/actuator system modeling, performance analysis, hardware integrated testing, and flight testing.
Basic Qualifications
* B.S. or M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
* Strong foundation in missile or satellite flight dynamics, stability, and control theory (e.g., classical, state space, optimal, robust, adaptive).
* Proficient in MATLAB/Simulink for modeling, linearization, and/or Monte Carlo analysis.
* Familiarity with high fidelity 6-DoF simulations and experience designing and/or maintaining control system models.
* Knowledge of software methods or standards including safety critical items and/or version control systems (e.g., Git, Gitlab).
* Ability to develop and execute unit, integration, and/or system level tests (e.g., HIL, SIL, flight test).
* Strong written and oral communication skills for cross functional teams and senior leadership.
Desired Skills
* Experience with Missile or Satellite Attitude Control System (ACS) or Thrust Vector Control (TVC) hardware/software, regardless of actuation type (e.g., hydraulic, electromechanical, flexible nozzle, RCS, etc.).
* Experience with stability & control analysis and guidance law development.
* Experience modeling GNC interaction with solid propellant systems, including transients, and thrust misalignment.
* Experience in development and integration of a 6-DoF high-fidelity vehicle simulation that includes thrust vector control and bending structural dynamics.
* Demonstrated experience with test and tactical flight algorithm performance evaluation in the frequency and time domains.
* Proven ability to implement and optimize control algorithms within embedded software or firmware applications for ACS or TVC.
* Experience translating control algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into flight-ready embedded C/C++ software, including auto-code generation.
* Familiar with agile development methodologies and processes.
* Familiar with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments with models that accurately emulate actuator dynamics and sensor noise.
* Experience in planning and execution of hardware tests or flight tests, telemetry handling, and post-test analysis, or reconstruction.
