About the role
The Senior Product Specialist - Clearing is a key contributor who owns end-to-end delivery of complex, high-impact workstreams within Rothera's clearinghouse product roadmap, operating with high autonomy and minimal oversight. This hands-on role, reporting to Senior Director, Product Manager - Clearing, combines deep subject matter expertise in clearing with the judgment to turn ambiguous objectives into shipped functionality, raising the quality bar for the broader product team along the way.
What you'll do
Leveraging your deep subject matter expertise in clearing within the context of a clearinghouse, your key responsibilities include independently owning product delivery for complex, cross-functional workstreams, working closely with clients, operations, risk, compliance and software engineers, from concept through launch, for features and functionality on Rothera's clearing platform. You'll also mentor other Product Specialists and influence priorities on adjacent teams.
Clearinghouse Product Development
- Independently own the development and implementation of complex, high-impact areas of the clearing system, regulatory reporting, and post-trade functionalities, leading collaboration across internal teams, operational departments, and clients to enhance Rothera's platform for listed and cleared derivative instruments.
- Lead initiatives with the Risk department on real-time risk management, including margin engine configuration, collateral valuation haircuts, and netting and settlement workflows, proactively identifying and resolving cross-team roadblocks.
- Own and evolve data models for trade settlement, position management, and transaction reporting across your workstreams, setting the data integrity standards other team members follow across the clearing lifecycle.
- Drive clearing member services and portal functionality, including integration of third-party platforms and vendors via FIX protocol, proprietary APIs, or enterprise message queues (e.g., Kafka), serving as the escalation point for the most complex integrations.
- Lead market research and competitive analysis to shape roadmap strategy within your area of ownership, surfacing non-obvious insights that influence priorities beyond your immediate workstreams.
- Translate ambiguous clearing business logic into detailed functional specifications, including API services (REST/Websocket), workflow diagrams, data schemas, and edge-case exception workflows, challenging engineering on technical trade-offs during implementation.
Customer Support
- Primary escalation point for the most complex technical and product issues within your ownership, collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and resolving issues others cannot.
- Ensure high-quality service delivery and issue resolution, setting the standard other Specialists are measured against.
- Lead the Operations team through complex customer technical onboarding, API conformance, and customer connectivity issues.
- Own strategic relationships with key customers and vendors on your workstreams, representing Rothera in high-stakes conversations.
What you'll bring
- 5-8 years of product management experience in capital markets, with a track record of independently shipping complex features for clearing infrastructure, clearing ledger systems, or transaction processing engines.
- Deep technical understanding of the post-trade lifecycle for listed derivatives or prediction markets, including trade ingest, position management, and end-of-day settlement cycles, across Futures, Options, Swaps, or Prediction Markets.
- Strong familiarity with Futures Commission Merchants and their integration with DCMs and DCOs, with the ability to advise on integration trade-offs.
- Experience with digital assets and blockchains is a plus.
- Track record of independently defining requirements for customer reporting or regulatory reporting infrastructure (e.g., CFTC, SEC, or EMIR compliance), and reviewing system logs for financial accuracy.
- Ability to query and analyze data independently using SQL or scripting languages (e.g., Python) to validate system behavior, investigate production anomalies, or write data-driven product requirements.
- Advanced familiarity with modern software architecture patterns (microservices, event-driven architecture, distributed ledgers) and the ability to challenge and engage engineers on complex technical trade-offs and decisions.
- Experience mentoring or coaching junior product managers or specialists, raising the quality bar for their work.
