Accounting Manager
Location: Virginia Beach, VA (On-site)
Job Type: Full-Time
Compensation: $85,000 – $120,000 / year (Commensurate with experience)
About the Role
We are an established government contracting company seeking an experienced, proactive Accounting Manager to lead daily financial operations for our Boating Division, alongside a few other affiliated entities. Our accounting team utilizes QuickBooks Online , DealerRock , and Paylocity . Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will own general ledger management, drive month-end closes across multiple QBO company files, oversee system integrations between Dealer Rock and QBO, manage state/local sales tax compliance, and supervise an Accounts Payable Clerk.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain chart of accounts, process month-end/year-end closing journal entries, perform balance sheet reconciliations, and manage the trial balance
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for executive review
- Direct, train, and review the daily work of the Accounts Payable Clerk
- Process payroll via Paylocity , ensuring accurate wage calculations, benefit deductions, and tax withholdings.
- Prepare, file, and remit recurring monthly/quarterly sales and use tax filings in compliance with state and local tax authorities.
Required Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle general ledger management and financial statement
- Software Proficiency: Advanced hands-on experience with QuickBooks Online (QBO) , including multi-entity account management
- Direct experience with Paylocity for payroll setup and processing.
- Experience operating or integrating a Dealer Management System (DMS) (e.g., DealerRock, Dockmaster, Lightspeed, or similar marine/dealership software) with QBO.
- Tax & Reporting: Strong practical knowledge of state sales and use tax filing regulations and electronic state portals.
- Spreadsheet Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
