About this role

About Coastal Waste & Recycling

At Coastal Waste & Recycling, we're building more than a company, we're building a team. As one of the fastest-growing privately held waste and recycling companies in the Southeast, we're looking for people who take pride in their work, put safety first, and are ready to grow with us.

Coastal Waste & Recycling is growing, and we’re looking across Florida for our next Market Area Controller.

This isn’t a Controller role where you sit behind a desk and report what happened last month. We’re looking for a financial leader who wants a seat at the table, understands the story behind the numbers, and can help operational leaders turn financial insight into better business decisions.

As our Market Area Controller , you’ll report directly to the Area President and serve as their key financial business partner. You’ll lead a team of Senior District Controllers and District Controllers , oversee financial performance across the market, and help drive accountability, operational efficiency, and sustainable profitability.

We’re searching across the state of Florida for the right talent and are open to relocation for the right candidate.

Your Role

You’ll own the financial performance and financial leadership of an assigned Coastal market area.

That means understanding not only what the numbers say, but why they moved and what we should do next.

You’ll work side-by-side with operational leaders, develop a strong Controller team, challenge the business when necessary, and help ensure our financial strategy supports where Coastal is going next.

What You’ll Do

- Serve as the primary financial business partner to the Area President and market leadership.
- Lead, coach, and develop Senior District Controllers and District Controllers across the market area.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and financial performance for the Area.
- Translate financial results into clear, actionable insights for operational leaders.
- Lead financial reviews with Area and District leadership and drive accountability around results.
- Analyze revenue, expenses, operational trends, and KPIs to identify risks and opportunities.
- Partner with Operations to improve profitability, cost control, route efficiency, and resource allocation.
- Evaluate the financial impact of operational changes, new initiatives, and business decisions.
- Strengthen financial processes, reporting consistency, and internal controls across the Area.
- Partner across Operations, Sales, Finance, and other functions to solve problems and improve performance.
- Support audits, acquisitions, integrations, and other strategic initiatives as Coastal continues to grow.
- Build a strong finance organization by developing talent, strengthening bench strength, and creating consistent expectations across your Controller team. At Coastal, we win as a team.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for a financial leader who can move comfortably between the P&L, the boardroom, and the operation.

You’ll bring:

- 10+ years of progressive accounting or finance experience.
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Strong leadership experience with a track record of developing accounting and finance professionals.
- Deep experience with budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, variance analysis, and operational finance.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, internal controls, and financial reporting.
- The ability to take complex financial information and make it understandable and actionable for non-financial leaders.
- Strong business judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Advanced Excel skills and experience working within ERP and financial systems.
- The confidence to challenge, influence, and partner with senior operational leaders.
- Willingness to travel throughout the assigned market area.

Even Better If You Have

- CPA or MBA credentials, experience supporting multi-site operations, or a background in waste and recycling, transportation, logistics, environmental services, or another operationally complex business will help you hit the ground running.
- Bilingual English/Spanish is also a plus.

Why Coastal?

Coastal is growing, and growth creates opportunity.

This role gives you the chance to lead a team, partner directly with senior operational leadership, influence the financial performance of an entire market, and help shape how we operate as we continue to scale.

We’re looking for someone who wants more than the next Controller title. We want someone who wants to understand the business, influence it, and help build what comes next.

Great talent isn’t limited to one city. Neither is our search.

We’re considering candidates throughout Florida and are willing to discuss relocation for the right person.

If you’re ready to lead beyond the numbers, we’d love to meet you.
