About this role
Who we are looking for:
We are looking for an experienced payments business analyst and control specialist to lead the business delivery of the Payment Anomaly Detection capability. During implementation, the role will be responsible for business requirements, rule and process design, data validation, user story development, testing, governance, and operational readiness. Following go-live, the role will transition into a senior operations leadership position responsible for the ongoing management of the capability, including operational oversight, business-owned rule management & governance, performance management, issue resolution, control effectiveness, and continuous enhancement of the anomaly detection framework
Why this role is important to us?
The anomaly detection capability will operate to identify unusual payments while protecting straight-through processing and payment cut-offs. Strong business ownership is required to ensure rules are explainable, tested, governed and supported by an effective exception-management operating model.
Join us if contributing to our Payments Business Risk and Resiliency Programs is a challenge you are up for.
What you will be responsible for
- Lead business analysis for the anomaly detection workstream, translating the BRD into detailed requirements, user stories, process flows and acceptance criteria.
- Own the business rules catalogue and coordinate the definition, documentation and prioritisation of customer, corridor, currency, rail, amount, time-of-day and cut-off-aware rules.
- Validate data inputs, historical baselines, payment identifiers, lifecycle attributes, entitlements, reference data and calculation logic used by rules and model outputs.
- Lead business review of UI, queue, filtering, tab management, case management, client-contact, explainability, dashboard and audit-trail functionality.
- Design controlled rule-change governance, including role-based access, maker-checker approval, rationale capture, versioning, effective dates, rollback and segregation of duties.
- Coordinate scenario design, test data, system integration testing, user acceptance testing, regression testing, defect triage and evidence sign-off.
- Define operational playbooks for false positives, high-risk anomalies, mandatory holds, client validation, missed cut-offs, high-volume events and approved resilience scenarios.
- Prepare and manage the BAU operating model, including queue ownership, escalation routes, procedures, training, coverage, capacity, KPIs, KRIs and governance forums.
- After go-live, oversee operations, rule effectiveness, false positives, alert volumes, override trends, drift indicators and tuning recommendations within approved governance.
- Align anomaly detection and cyber-response processes so suspicious or incorrect payment activity is triaged effectively during resilience events.
- Provide senior operational support during incidents, high-volume alert events and material rule or control changes.
What we value:
These skills will help you succeed in this role:
- Strong payments business analysis experience with the ability to translate control objectives into implementable requirements.
- Knowledge of payment operations, SWIFT or ISO 20022 messages, payment rails, cut-offs, sanctions screening, fraud or anomaly controls.
- Experience in rule design, data analysis, process mapping, testing, defect management and operational readiness.
- Strong control mindset with practical knowledge of RBAC, maker-checker, audit evidence and segregation of duties.
- Ability to lead workshops and influence Technology, Analytics, Risk, Compliance and Operations stakeholders.
Education & Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, data, technology or a related discipline.
- 7+ years of financial services experience, preferably in payments, controls, fraud, screening or change delivery.
- Business analysis, product ownership, testing or process-improvement qualifications are advantageous.
