Cherry Bekaert Recruiting is seeking an experienced Controller / Director of Finance for a contract opportunity with a nonprofit organization. This individual will provide hands-on accounting and financial leadership, overseeing the month-end close process, supporting the annual audit, improving accounting processes, and assisting with budgeting and forecasting.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and support the month-end close process , ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Provide overall accounting and finance oversight .
- Review accounting activity, reconciliations, journal entries, and financial statements as needed.
- Coordinate and provide support for the annual audit , including preparation of schedules and supporting documentation.
- Identify opportunities for process improvement , stronger controls, and increased efficiency within the accounting function.
- Lead and support the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Monitor financial results and assist with budget-to-actual analysis.
- Partner with organizational leadership on financial reporting and accounting matters.
- Provide hands-on support to the accounting team and help address issues that arise during the contract engagement.
Qualifications
- Nonprofit accounting experience required.
- Significant experience in a Controller, Director of Finance, or similar senior accounting/finance role .
- Strong knowledge of month-end close, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general accounting .
- Experience leading or supporting financial statement audits .
- Hands-on experience with budgeting and forecasting .
- Demonstrated ability to assess accounting processes and implement process improvements .
- NetSuite experience a plus
- CPA preferred, but not required.
- Public accounting experience preferred, but not required.
- Ability to quickly assess an accounting environment and contribute in a hands-on contract capacity.
