Go beyond the numbers and do something different by helping to build one of the most dynamic new practices in tax. The Inflation Reduction Act’s §6418 transferability market is only a few years old — and we’re looking for a leader who has been in it since the beginning. As Principal leading our Tax Credit Transferability Team, you’ll own the growth of an end-to-end practice serving clients across all 50 states. This is a market-facing, origination-driven role for someone who loves building — both a book of business and the team behind it.
Your role.
Your work will include, but not be limited to:
Business Development & Market Origination
- Lead origination and growth of the firm’s tax credit transferability practice on both the buy-side and sell-side, nationally
- Cultivate and expand a network across the clean-energy credit ecosystem — direct sellers, brokers, syndicators, and developers in the 45X / ITC / PTC markets
- Build a book of business through proactive market development, prospecting, proposals, conferences, and referral-source relationships
- Serve as a market-facing leader and public voice for the practice, developing thought leadership and representing the firm at industry events
Team Building & Staff Developmen t
- Lead, mentor, and grow the Transferability Team — inheriting an established core group with a clear path to scale the team
- Develop technical and market talent through coaching, training, and hands-on engagement leadership
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing team culture aligned with the firm’s people-first values
Technical & Engagement Leadership
- Guide clients through the full transferability lifecycle — generation and IRS registration, purchase and sale agreements, diligence and risk mitigation, and claiming credits
- Oversee transaction structuring, documentation, tax-opinion coordination, and compliance with IRS and Treasury guidance
- Serve as the senior relationship and economic owner on engagements, including billing, realization, and collections
Firm Contributions
- Collaborate across Assurance, Tax, Management Consulting, and Wealth Management to identify cross-serving opportunities
- Contribute to internal training, recruiting, and the development of the firm’s transferability tools and thought leadership
The qualifications.
- 10+ years of relevant tax, tax credit, or clean-energy transaction experience
- Deep, demonstrated expertise in §6418 tax credit transferability
- CPA preferred
- A proven track record of building a book of business and an established network within the clean-energy credit space (an existing book is not required, but the demonstrated ability to build one is essential)
- Public accounting experience preferred but not required; industry and deal-side backgrounds are welcome (e.g., syndicators, brokers, developers)
- Strong leadership, business development, and staff-development skills
- Willingness to travel primarily for business development: prospects, conferences, and training
- remote candidates should expect to travel to a Plante Moran offices periodically throughout the year
